Back to Basics ~

IMG_6835I have had a great deal of inner dialog lately that seems to surface at unexpected times during my day. It feels like my subconscious is sending out warning signals, interrupting my thought process, trying to remind me to stay connected. I have been in deep thought about what I want and how I am going to achieve it, physically, spiritually, mentally, financially and in love. Times up, todays the day!

The physical part is easy…just do it. Put your shoes on and go! Lately I have lost my connection with that feeling of being exhilarated by movement. I crave it! I am starting to understand why.

“Hi my name is Tracy Westerholm and I am addicted to massive amounts of social media!” There I said it. Social Media has been the instigator to my disconnect. Too much time with my face in my phone engulfed in every iPhone app related to connecting with others, which has made me feel disconnected with myself and oddly enough…others!

WARNING RUN ON SENTENCE AHEAD…

Lets be honest all the social media that is out there is actually NOT allowing us to connect with one another up close and personal! I don’t have time after I log in to Facebook and check my messages, upload a pic or two, say hi to a few friends, BBM the handsome dude back East, answer my Text Messages, scroll Instagram, WhatsApp my non iPhone friends, check out who checked me out on OkCupid, answer my regular Email (not one but 4 accounts) Facetime my daughter in the other room, Skype, Snapchat, Pinterest, download a new song from iTunes, listen to it, YouTube the latest cool video, MapMyRun but now I am so tired…I don’t run! Good God no wonder I don’t have time to meet you for coffee! I need a nap just reading that!

I am deactivating ( <~a true addict) distancing myself from Facebook (insert gasp here) and although I know I will go back at some point, I need this brake break. (<~ thanks Bon…see I need your balance…come back!) I need to fall back in love with me, so I have taken a few steps to unplug all the distractions that are preventing me from becoming a better me. I need to find my focus.

Reconnecting with my spirituality has also been on my mind, but has been clouded by the chaos that I have allowed to surround me. I need to reconnect with what is important to me. I need to listen to my heart without all the distractions of my head.

Financially I am starting to feel in control. It is about balancing needs and wants. Having the desire and drive to achieve short and long term goals you set is critical in seeing them to fruition. If you don’t set these goals you lose sight of where you are heading. Having spent the last year working at Envision Financial I have become very much aware of what is important in finding a balance in my financial life. I have also experienced first hand how having a plan in place helps you reach your goals, no matter what they are. I love my job and the women I work with, they are so willing to share their knowledge and support with one another.

Mentally I strive to be in a place that makes sense. I think too much. Although I am ready to take on whatever comes my way it can be daunting at times. I remind myself ~ It’s how we react to tough situations that makes us truly who we are, building our character along the way. I think all of us need to take a mental vacation from everything to see clearly what we need to change. I know I do, I am.

Love! I can’t write anything without there being an underlying voice of love, it’s who I am. It truly is all we really need. Loving unconditionally without boundaries or restrictions is the purest form of love. I have struggled over the years to understand what I want and need in regard to love. I think I may be searching for a moving ship. Some days I sink, other days I float.

One thing I know for sure is that I need my girlfriends! Female energy is nurturing. When I  walk next to one of my girlfriends, whether my heart is heavy or light, whether I have tears of sadness or joy they always seem to balance my energy with theirs making us feel empowered and able to take on the world once again!

Have a wonderful long weekend everyone! Be safe and connect with someone up close and personal, it matter!

Svaha Spirit Series ~ Sweet Child O’ Mine ~

I came across Zoe Thomson after checking out another video a friend posted on Facebook. She is so adorable to watch. I couldn’t decide whether to look at her face or hands.

I think we will be seeing more of this little rock star in the future. I would love to be able to play a simple tune…keep a tune for that matter. I love watching anyone create or play music! Check out this little rocker chic! Zoe Thomson playing along with Guns N’ Roses…Sweet Child O’ Mine ~

Zoe Thomson should have her own channel…

What’s Happening Out There?

It seems more often than not when I watch the News I feel sad and wonder what’s happening out there? Beautiful young girls are being beaten to death in broad daylight, gang raped while others just standing by and watch, boys are bullied at school and forced to fight so some jackass can post the video on YouTube, there is political unrest around the world, and it seems innocent lives are being lost everywhere you look. Human beings are coming unglued. There are those who are creating negative behaviour and those who are reacting to it. The human race needs help and guidance desperately! Its craziness that is so disturbing at times it makes you wonder if its even safe to bring a child into this world! At times our future seems anything but bright, but I think we have to stay focused on the good that is all around us. If you look hard enough, it’s there, just hard to see some days!

When I sit and think about all the negative things going on in the world I think about what my part in all this is? Where do I fit in? What am I doing to create the change that is needed to stop the mayhem? There’s always hope, you can never give up or you lose before you even begin. Even one person can create enough change to make a difference!

When people visit Tara Cronica for the first time they often wonder what it is we’re selling. Its made me question why I’m doing this, more than once. What are we giving those who drop by for a visit? We sell our line of Jewelry and T-shirts, but the bulk of our site is our written word. What’s that worth? I use my voice because I feel passionate about sharing my life with others hoping to help in some way with theirs. I try to live by example of what you can achieve through perseverance and hard work. My hope when you leave Tara Cronica is that you don’t feel alone. There’s always someone out there who can relate. I hope to put a smile on your face, show you a different point of view and stir you somehow inside, which makes you use your voice in return. We are not just selling Jewelry and Tee’s, they have our message of Inspiration which I think is really important in the world today, you can’t put a price on Inspiration!

We created this space in the blogosphere to “Find Lyrical Beauty in Everyday Happenings” where we try to focus our attention on the upside of ‘everyday happenings’. We want you to leave inspired, so you can carry on your day and inspire others, and come back more grounded having creating positive change. We are trying to create a feeling, a warm sense of belonging, a safe place in a world that is trying desperately to change for the good. We are real women sharing real stories. We all have our own reasons for walking down this path, for me it just feels right. It’s a way of giving back, joining a social network to make my difference, as small as it may be.

I happen to think we are part of a very important movement which is picking up momentum as we speak! What’s happening in the world is not all negative, there is a lot of positive as well and that is what we are trying to share with you!

Thoughts become things….chose the good ones!

(RED) The Lazarus Effect

Last night on Facebook, (RED)The Lazarus Effect’ film Directed by Lance Bangs, Executive Producer Spike Jonze, streamed The Red Carpet live from the screening at MoMA in NY. You can see the film’s Premiere on May 24 th on HBO, YouTube & Channel 4. I originally saw the campaign commercial on Homorazzi.com (LOVE IT) a new site I found while doing research for another post. (Friday’s) Sooo many great things to write about it’s hard to pick!

I keep getting reminded why Bono is my all time favourite musician, here is another reason! Bono, Penelope Cruz, Hugh Jackman, Don Cheadle, Gwen Stefani, Gabourey Sidibe, Jane Lynch, Dakota Fanning, Orlando Bloom, Lucy Liu, Claire Daines, and so many more friends of (RED) show the power of what 40 cents can buy.

The Lazarus Effect Campaign: 40 cents = 2 lifesaving pills … With the help of 2 antiretroviral (ARV) pills that cost around 40 cents a day, a person with HIV can transform their life in as few as 40 days. Doctors call it “The Lazarus Effect.”

I buy (RED) whenever given the choice to do so. It takes the same effort to buy a Starbucks (RED) gift card as it does any other, so why not! My kids Teacher gifts are (RED) Starbucks coffee cards. You’re not only supporting a great cause which is making positive change in the world, you’re teaching kids that a gift can have a life changing meaning behind it! Win/win!

Change is being made because of those who use their voices! You can use your consumer voice, by supporting (RED), Teacher gifts and Mother’s Day are just a few ways to help!

Sex Sells ~ Bom Chicka Wah Wah

I was surfing the Internet looking for topics to write about and you know how it goes, you type in one thing and it takes you into a completely different direction.

I haven’t written about sex in a while so thought I would go that route. I was researching why ‘Sex Sells’ in advertising and came across three funny Axe Commercials. I LOVE that these women totally put themselves out there, and that was just to ‘get’ the commercial. Auditioning can be completely embarrassing, even humiliating, I’ve had to do some pretty silly stuff in my years of auditioning but this one takes the cake for me. I am honestly not sure I could have done this seriously enough to actually land the job. You can see some of the auditions on YouTube as well, which is kind of disturbing from an actresses point of view (I cringe at the thought of an old audition tape showing up on the Internet) but hey, it is what it is, right?

So after trying to research why Sex Sells, lets just say it does for now, and even more so if its got a laugh attached to it!

“Bom Chicka Wah Wah” ~

Another …

One more…

I hope you had a laugh and guys if I were you I’d give Axe a try! Bonnie for some reason I can see you doing this and it makes me laugh just thinking about it. Every time I enter a grocery store with my son I warn him that I am feeling like I just might ‘Bom Chicka Wah Wah’, he walks back to the Jeep, it makes me laugh that he actually thinks its possible. I think I might give it a try sometime, without warning of course. Therapy’s going to be expensive 🙂 lol

“You know what!”

Our family has quite a few ‘sayings’ that make me laugh each time I hear them. My son has his favorite when someone is questioning him. It got the title of my post because it’s said the most by all of us. “You know what!” You have to have a look of displeasure on your face and really say it with conviction for it to work.

I have been surfing around other blogs lately just to see what’s going on in the blogosphere and I could totally relate to Tony Anders (‘Artisan Of The Human Spirit’) post ‘Stand up? Nope, sit down‘. I know many of you with kids approaching the wonderful years of ‘teenageism’ will be able to relate. It’s basically about how our kids perceive us as they are growing up. As a parent it feels like one day our kids are looking to us for every laugh they have waiting to let out, and the very next moment they are embarrassed by the same shtick that once got a riotous reaction! And to that I say,“You know what!” I’m not buyin it. My Dad was always able to make me laugh, I think he is still one of the funniest guys out there. Jeez I never even considered that maybe I am just not as funny as my Dad. Na, that can’t be possible. Regardless, I can’t relate when my kids look at me ‘questionably’ when I say something funny! It just makes me want to rebel even more. Ya I know, real mature.

My kids recently told me I was not allowed to sing in the car, my hand gestures are apparently over the top! (the back windows are blacked out for cry in out loud) It’s not like anyone can even see them. I know I am not the best singer but I’M NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO LIP SYNC!! “You know what!” As I told Tony in a comment I gave my kids a ‘what-for’ (you gotta love Urban dictionary) about me being who I am and loving life and that I was comfortable expressing myself as I do. They could either embrace me for all I am and enjoy the show within the confines of my Jeep with the blacked out windows, OR, tune into You-tube to see me in my own Numa Numa video for the world and all their friends to see. I’m singing in the car! Thank you very much I’ll be here til Thursday! I have retained the Paddle of Power! Now that I think of it I did do a You-tube video that shows my maturity and they laughed. (check out my bio page if you want to see how mature I really am)

Another way we get a real laugh around our house is if someone teases a member of the family because they, lets say stutter or do something stupid, (yes, we draw attention to it) the rule is you can’t tease the person back who gets you first, that’s called second man in and if you try it backfires and you become the laughing stock of the family! Skills my kids will use FOREVER, no therapy needed so far for either kid might I add. The only time your not allowed to tease someone in our family is if they are sensitive and announce “The Red Light Is On” we all respect that. I can see after reading this that we have a quirky family, but we don’t go without laughter in our house, it’s not allowed!

I will leave you with one more game that was brought home by Scott,“last one to laugh”, if you’re the last one to laugh at something it shows that you took the longest time to ‘get it’ so now the focus is on you, and we all laugh at that. It’s really funny to see everyone realize that two people are laughing and you need to laugh really quick to not be dubbed ‘last one to laugh’, which makes it even funnier. It really is all about the LOL in my world as you can see. Oh the games we play behind closed doors.

Enjoy your day everyone and just make sure you LAUGH!

Tracy Questions Her Maturity ~

Have you ever seriously questioned your own maturity. We’ve all done things in our lives that have been followed by “What was I thinking?” I recently got an iMac and one of the applications on it is photo booth. If you have one I am sure you know where this is headed. (no pun intended)

This is how I spent the better part of the day when I was trying to do a serious video blog for our site and I just couldn’t do it! I kept hearing Bonnie’s voice in my head “you’re so serious, it’s just not the Tracy I know, do something funny to show me that it’s you” (that was a slightly edited version of what she really said) I hear a chicken gobbling clucking 🙂  Anne get your Kleenex out to wipe the pee off your cheeks this is wayyy more fun than Jib Jab!  (Anne taught us that ‘pee’ has the exact same chemical make up as ‘tears’) Oh, by the way I’m available! lol

That was just an example of what is to come on Tara Cronica’s side bar in the near future, so keep checking back for New Video Blogs from The Tara Team!

500 Years of Female Portraits

Bonnie Johnson's PostThe year my son graduated from high school I put together a video for him of clips from his school years, beginning with kindergarten and set to music.   I began the video by using each years school picture he had and overlapping and blending them from one year to the next.  I kept his eyes at the same place in each clip so that the effect was of his face structure changing and maturing.   It looked very cool to see his baby face develop into the young man he had become by grade 12.

I recently found this video that has used the same concept with portraits of females over the last 500 years in western art.  It’s so well done I just had to share it with you.  The fellow that created it is Phillip Scott Johnson (no relation).  His video was nominated for Most Creative video for the Youtube Awards in 2007.  However, these guys won that year.  Whatever!  I know  from my measly attempt just how time consuming and intricate Phillips video was to pull off.  He would have had my vote.  Youtube – If you are looking for future judges,  I’m available.

The sound track is performed by Yo-Yo Ma and is Bach’s Suite No. 1, BWV 1007 In G Major- Sarabande for those of you who understand that kind of music talk jargon.  I just know it sounds great.  Also if you want to know the titles of the art and names of the artists someone named Boni (again no relation) has gone to the effort to document it all for you on her web site.  And if anyone is interested in the video I created entitled  “James – The School Years”  you can purchase it from me for $29.99 – kidding! $9.99?     – still kidding!
