An Evening with Wayne Dyer
While I was still away in Florida I received an email that Dr.Wayne Dyer was coming to Vernon. For those of you who aren’t sure who Wayne Dyer is here is a quick bio:
WAYNE W. DYER, PH.D., is an internationally renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development. He’s the author of over 30 books, has created many audio programs and videos, and has appeared on thousands of television and radio shows.
His books Manifest Your Destiny, Wisdom of the Ages, There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, and the New York Times bestsellers 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace, The Power of Intention, Inspiration, Change Your Thoughts—Change Your Life, and now Excuses Begone have all been featured as National Public Television specials.
I have read many of his books over the years and enjoyed many of his Public Television specials as well. I was a little surprised that someone of his fame and calibre was coming to Vernon, BC. We don’t usually get big names to our small town. We normally would have to travel to Vancouver or at the very least to Kelowna, so I decided to jump on the opportunity to see him live so close to home.
I booked myself and two girlfriends tickets. One had to be out of town for work so my husband decided to come along to see who this guy was whose name appeared on our book shelves.
Wayne Dyer is good at what he does. He’s a very good speaker and he had the audience laughing at his humour the moment he began speaking. He’s like a walking quotes book too. How does he remember these great lines, their author and the year these wise quotes were written? The man is 70 years old now, although he doesn’t look it. I can’t remember what I had for breakfast yesterday but this man can quote from many great books off the top of his head. Impressive. I particularly enjoyed the way he found humour in his personal conflict with his own ego when recently being named the third most spiritual person in the world. He joked about getting together with Eckhart Tolle to bump the Dalai Lama out of first place and that the Dalai Lama was cheating because he’s had so many incarnations as a spiritual leader. 🙂
I enjoyed the whole 3 1/2 hours and my husband only fidgeted in his seat slightly. He is such a good sport.
I can’t say I was hit with any new aha moments or sudden enlightenment but then I have already read many of his books and I went in knowing what to expect. I certainly wasn’t disappointed in his words, but I also felt that he didn’t offer anything new…to me. I’m sure there were many in the audience who were very inspired by what he had to say. He is working on a new book right now that is about how to manifest what you want into your life. Again, that isn’t a new concept either but it will be interesting to read his take on it.
Before he took the stage Dyer mingled with a few people who rushed to get their photos taken with him or get an autograph. I thought it was nice that he made the time for anyone who wished to speak with him. I’m not the type to fawn over anyone and I’m too shy to approach for a photo so my good friend Chris snapped this shot of the very casual and perhaps underdressed for Vernon, Wayne Dyer for me to add to this post. Thanks Chris!
Over all it was a very enjoyable evening with Wayne Dyer and I would recommend seeing him if you ever get the opportunity.
