Edge of Glass

Tracy While exploring Fremont, the Artsy University District in Seattle, Scott and I came across the Gallery and Studio, Edge of Glass !  We were lucky enough to met the Owner and Artist in Residence, James Curtis.  He kindly escorted us to a display to give us an amazing tour of what he creates.  Each work of art is a hand crafted unique original.

James Curtis workingJames creates a wide variety of items to choose from; Pendant fixtures (a downward facing opening), Chandeliers (an upward facing opening), Antique RestorationFloor and Table Lamps, Art Glass, Wall Planters and the list goes on.  If you feel inspired and want to try your own hand at glass blowing he also gives private classes.  You can spend as little as twenty dollars on beautiful flower art, or thousands on large intricate custom orders.  Which ever you choose it will be one of a kind, worth every penny!

The glass fixtures were beautiful at first glance, muted colours hidden in layers but when James added a splash of light each one was nothing short of magnificent!  The fixtures transformed into something completely different, we actually gasped when we saw them illuminated!  James Curtis’s Art of Lighting was simply breathtaking!

James finds inspiration in many areas of his life which is passed on through the glass to you.  He is inspiring for his involvement in his community, donating to charities, sponsoring schools and fundraisers. If your ever exploring Fremont, drop in and have him show you how his glass blowing art comes alive with the flick of a switch!

One of my favorites is under the ‘Dragon’s Tooth Lights’ gallery called The Tree of Life!  ~ Edge of Glass ~

You will be enlightened just as we were I am sure!

Seattle is one of the major glass-blowing centers of the world… no… the Universe! (sorry, Austin Powers moment)

I’ve visited a few glass studios but never this one. I’m going to have to put it on my next list of places to visit in Seattle. Great city for music and art.
    Cheers!
