I Heard a Rumour – The 80’s are Over
Looking back at some old photos and even some video footage (gasp) of myself taken during the eighties always makes me laugh. I wonder what the heck I was thinking; the big hair, the makeup, the long nails. Cringe. (I was even considered conservative compared to many.) And yes, full eyebrows were in then!
When I found this old music video of Bananarama singing “I Heard a Rumour” it all made sense to me. These were some of the women I thought were cool back then, including newbie Madonna, Pat Benatar, Whitney Houston, Sade, Bangles, Go-Go’s, The Pointer Sisters and Salt-N-Pepa. And let’s not forget performers that blurred the gender lines like Culture Club and Prince.
So really, it isn’t entirely my fault, I was just trying to keep up with the style of the day. I have long since given up the blue eyeliner and matching mascara, I rarely touch a bottle of hairspray anymore and there is not a neon parachute pant to be found in my closet. I have to admit that I still love the music of the 80’s but I’m also very happy to see that dancing moves have improved over the years! (Not necessarily mine though) Here’s to modern choreography!
Too funny!

Hahahaha! At least you weren’t standing alone on this one, I was right beside ya! That picture is awesome! I have more! lol I loved Bananarama, they take me back to Oahu running along the canal! Maybe I will run to them today, but then I’d need to bring out my cassette player and its kind of heavy to run with! 🙂 Yes I still have two cases of cassettes with player! Thankfully no 8-tracks!
Those are some sweet eye brows Bon, no unibrow though! Fun stuff!

I loved the 80’s look! Elf boots and tunics, top twisty ponytails and tights with skirts! Lots of layers of tulle and fun. At least that was what I was wearing. I went for the candy floss pink lips and frothy hair. The clothes were so comfortable to wear!
I think the blue shadow looks AWESOME on you, Bonnie. Glam rocks on! Thanks for the trip down memory catwalk. And if you ever need to borrow a colour block tight form fitting dress with huge shoulder pads, I’ve got one here you can try on.
