Curmudgeon – y

Today is a day of remembrance to honour all veterans. Our deepest heartfelt thank you to all who have served.

cur·mudg·eon [ker-muhj-uhn]
noun
a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person.  (cantankerous – another great word!)

I like curmudgeon.  I like the way the word itself sounds. Cur – mudge – on.   I like people who are described as being that way.  That may seem odd to you but it’s the truth.  I think it may stem from my respect for my grandfather.  Lots of people described him using the word “curmudgeon”.  I may agree with that description but I also look at it from a slightly different perspective.  I can’t help but admire people who can be described as such.  Why?  Because they say it like it is.  No sugar coating.  No crap.  Nowhere near politically correct.  And I like it like that.  There is too much sugar coating in this world sometimes.  And I, for one, am sick of it!  Oooo, does that make me a curmudgeon?

I was deeply saddened to hear of Andy Rooney’s passing last week.  A veteran too.  Now there was a great curmudgeon.  I was sad because I will miss his rhetoric/rant at the end of each 60 Minutes segment.  Purely selfish of me to want him to stick around and keep working.  The guy had only just retired and then a few weeks later, died at age 92.  (Hmm, perhaps you should go back to work John)

Rest in peace  Andy and thanks for all of your grouchy, cranky, sourpuss commentary for so many years.  I loved it all! You will be missed.

P.S.  Always loved the eye brows!

I was sad as well when I heard of the passing of Andy Rooney. He was the perfect ending to a fantastic show! Curmudgeon…love the word too, and yes cantankerous is awesome! Both words make me smile 🙂
I love anyone who doesn’t have a filter, but to get paid for not having one is just superb in my mind!
I agree Bon, wayyyy too much sugar coating in our world!
I am grateful for all those who are making a difference in the world, country, community it all matters.
    I am remembering…

I think Rooney got away with being a famous curmudgeon because he was on TV and, therefore, his curmudgeonliness was sanctioned. He was a professional curmudgeon and had fun with it. It was his schtick. But for those of us who have curmudgeons in our families, at our dining tables or at our places of business it isn’t so much fun. It can be contagious, too, and spread like the plague. No one really wants grouchy people around.
RIP Andy Rooney… you just said a lot of things out loud other people were thinking.
