Back to School
I woke up this morning with a “back to school” nervous stomach, and I’m not even going back to school. It must be a mass consciousness thing or something here in BC. Most of our province’s children return to school this morning and it reminds me of all those years of my own “first day back to school” days. They were both really exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. It was exciting to be able to wear the new clothes (new uniform during my Australian years) and to finally see all of my friends again, but what would my new teacher be like. “Please don’t let me get Mrs. Jackson, I hear she is soooo mean.”
At least we here in Canada don’t have the “terrifying” presidential speech that will be delivered to our American cousins south of the border today about how important it is to stay in school and take some responsibility regarding their own education. What an absurd point of view. Phht! Last night the news coverage even showed one woman in tears she was so upset by the idea. Are they serious? Personally, I think the ones freaked out about this are the ones that really should have stayed in school longer. I’m just sayin’.
Just for fun I’m posting some of my own “first day of school” photos. I’m still getting over the “boy” haircut at six years old and the other photos are proof that I share some chimpanzee genes by the look of my seriously long arms and legs.(ok, mostly arms)

Ah, the first day of school…the nostalgia. I love it! Whenever my kids go back to school, I feel that wave of feelings: the positivity, the confidence, excitement of new clothes, seeing the friends again that I hadn’t seen over the summer. Every year I ‘feel’ back to the start of my grade 10 year – all those good feelings…excuse me while I relive 🙂

LMAO and yes I did laugh my ass off at the length of your arms, OMG you are a direct descendant of the chip!! How come I have never noticed that before !! Now that I think of it you have never in 30 years asked me to scratch your back ! Tooooo funny and even funnier that your sense of haha allowed you to post it and then actually draw attention to the fact! That’s my girl! That right there is one of the many reasons we have been BFF’s for so long. Okay now that I can actually look away from the picture and write my comment I will tell you of my kids first day back at school. For my daughter it was only for 1.5 hours and as soon as she walked out of school she actually said “Whoa I could barely even make it through that day!” It’s going to be a long year for her I guess. My son however entered into Middle School and it was more than exciting, lockers, new girls, home room, shop, woodworking, he on the other hand loved all 120 minutes of the day and can’t wait until tomorrow. I loved the first day back at school because I was/am obsessed with school supplies and being organized. Knowledge is power kids so pay attention ! Be safe but not careful and most of all have fun!

You haven’t noticed before because my body eventually caught up to my arms…almost…I can still scratch every square inch of my back by myself. Should be an interesting year for both your kids. Can’t wait to hear updates. I can’t believe I forgot to mention brand new school supplies! That was one of my favourite parts of going back to school…new supplies! 🙂

… Very cute… I would have been looking for you at the sock hop. Raised in a Love rich family…. only the annual new soles & shoe polish marked the start of school. School was treasured in every way…!!!! Short story: I got “the strap” for kissing girls (spin the bottle)… Mom was upset and Dad said it was OK… he was right.. and the girls brought the bottle!!!… I’ll never forget their smiles & giggles as the bottle spun & stopped…

Shauney my favorite part of school was shopping for school supplies. We just got back from getting a little more that we didn’t need but it was Jonas Brothers and how could we resist that ! Have fun in school !
