Hmmm.. another notice in my email today about the West Coast Chocolate Festival starting October 16th and running until November 10th. Sounds de-lish! Better add that to my Yahoo calendar before I forget. The scotch ‘n chocolate tasting event looks to be mighty educational and I do like to be a well-rounded kinda gal. Okay, …this’ll work. I see here that the Vancouver International Film Festival ends on October 15th so we’re all good. Two weeks and 370 blissful movie screening opportunities starting at only $150 if I put out for a VIFF pass…
Wait a sec. Yesss! I knew I had that bookmarked somewhere. The Vancouver International Readers and Writers Festival is this October too, and I really, really wanted to hang out with Margaret Atwood and listen to some poetry and drink coffee and wear a beret and hang out with mes amis! From the 18th to the 25th! Dang overlap. Don’t panic. I can always go to the Word on the Street Festival on September 27th and get a mini ‘lit’ fix. But have you seen the enormous line up of events? I have to make… decisions! Let me save that info … What’s this? Word on the Street has teamed up with Global TV’s Comedy Fest! I can catch the last evening show since I’ll already be downtown at Library Square…

When did Vancouver become known as the city of Festivals? The city that never stops partying? I’m trying terribly hard to find time to work on my housekeeping skills (and my neglected paintings) but my beautiful Vancouver keeps calling me out to be festive! I’ve been a regular attendee at the Playhouse International Wine Festival, got stuck in Vaisakhi Festival traffic (and loved it) and I’ve even been tickled a few times at the Fringe Festival. Many events have been free, like the Jim Byrnes concert which was part of the summer Jazz Festival series, and lots of festivals revolve around food. Festival food is about new experiences, and new experiences are, as stated earlier, educational, and we would never put a cap on learning sooooo…. I say “go for it!”
Bottom line: You want a festival? Come to Vancouver any day of the year and she’ll (Yup, V’s a ‘she’) point you to a festival. Or a parade. We’ve got parades galore. In my late teens a guy asked me out on a lunch date and I wound up with a bag of grapes walking in a parade! I love it!
