I Give A Damn!

I had another post ready for today about Internet Dating but after watching Larry King Live, it just seemed trivial compared to this.

The Give a Damn Campaign is a project of the True Colors Fund, founded by Cyndi Lauper. The True Colors Fund works to inspire and engage everyone, especially the straight community, to get involved in the advancement of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.

As an advocate for more than 25 years, Cyndi has worked to bring her straight peers on board in support of equality. As she says, “If one us is not equal, none of us are.” (taken from We Give A Damn website)

I joined We Give a Damn and you should too! It doesn’t matter if your gay or straight, you should still give a damn! Bullying is everywhere, not just directed at gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, it’s also directed at those who are straight. Bullying was in my biggest fear having a son entering into Middle School. It can be a parents worst nightmare, because as we’ve seen in the News it can lead to suicide. No one should ever be made to feel like taking their own life is the only solution. Kids need to know that their lives will get better and it will pass, but only if we join together and see to it! Being bullied can happen to anyone, a child, teens and adults. It’s unacceptable. Bullies are cowards who prey on others because of their own insecurities. The problem lies beneath their skin, not those who are being bullied!

My girlfriends son was bullied just last week, not for being gay, for being new to a school. It was horrible to hear what her son had to go through, it breaks my heart! As parents, coaches and teachers we need to take a stand and not accept any tolerance to any kind of behaviour that remotely resembles bullying! Take a stand, I did!

Follow We Give A Damn on Twitter ! And to join Give A Damn Campaign on Facebook!

We Give A Damn, if you do you’ll check it out too, it has so much information!

Kids can help too, here is a great example of how ~

  1. I’m sooooo glad you posted about this!

This site is sure to help bring awareness to the issue and hopefully offer people options when they are feeling alone and bullied. Hard to believe people can be so cruel to each other.

I joined and I’m looking at getting one of their t-shirts too.

Way to go Cyndi Lauper and all of the other celebs and everyday peeps that are putting their support behind this movement. 🙂

    • The site is filled with important information on so many issues that every single one of us can relate to at some point in our lives, by either going through something similar or knowing someone who is! Cyndi Lauper Rocks!

  2. I join as well. These things should not be happening. Parents should be teaching their kids that everyone is equal and should all be treated as such. Good article Tracy.

    • It starts at home as far as I am concerned! The lack of parental supervision is where things start to spiral downward!
I think some parents mistake freedom with maturity. Even High School kids need adult supervision, to feel safe themselves. Kids are not prepared for situations we think they are. They still need guidance and support navigating through their youth. Mistakes are made, lessons are learned but with communication lives don’t need to be lost!

    • Yes!!!
Absolutely no ONE person should feel as though they don’t have a valued spot in society! Variety in race, culture, religion and sexual orientation is what makes this beautiful world of our special!
      Thanks Christine! 🙂
      Svaha!
