Svaha Spirit Series ~ Terry Fox

March 14th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Inspiring, Jacquie's Posts, Svaha Spirit Series~Sunday, Tossed Salad

I had a show set to record on Friday night but when I went to view it found that it had instead recorded the Opening Ceremonies of the Paralympic Games 2010 in Vancouver! I am so glad I got to see it!

Two of the torch bearersĀ  were the parents of Canadian Marathon of Hope runner and national hero Terry Fox.

While I’ve known Terry’s story for 30 years, it still amazes me to hear about his running a marathon a day for almost 140 days straight — using a prosthetic leg. A truly special teenager.

Like our entire nation, Terry Fox has a special place in my heart.
Watching this video just now was like visiting an old friend. We all still miss him.
I’m so proud that our nation continues his Marathon of Hope each year and that the rest of the world are joining in as well. What a legacy he created!
“International Run locations are organized by Canadian Embassies/Consulates, Canadian Forces Bases, Anti-Cancer Councils and Societies as well as other dedicated organizations and individuals. The reports that we receive suggest that the Terry Fox Run provides an important opportunity for solidifying the good name that Canada has always had with people around the world. “ https://www.terryfox.org/InternationalRun/index.html

I hit that play button and I just start crying. Its so hard to watch that or anyone to mention Terry because I have this really deep feeling like I know him. Its almost like at times we are the same person.

This year I will be speaking at the 30th anniversary and I honestly don’t know how I am going to do it. Terry is a hero to me that no one can understand. We have been through all the same things and have felt the same feelings at one time. He is the real definition of Hope.

My favourite part of the video is when Terry took a day off running his marathon in order to spend time with the 10 year old boy who had the same cancer as he did. Yes, he touched millions of lives, but this showed me how much he really cared about individuals and the true reason he was doing the run.

Samantha, you’ll do a great job as always because you always speak from the heart and you’re not afraid to be honest. You’re like Terry in that way; you’re doing it to help make someone else’s life easier and we all applaud you. You’re carrying on what he started in your own way…
