My New ‘Creating Fabulous Memories’ Shoes…

November 5th, 2009 · 22 Comments · Jacquie's Posts, Tossed Salad

That is what CFM stands for, right?

post pic 4-1I was all set to write about something deep and vitally important to mankind today until I caught the last half hour of Monday’s Oprah show about shoes, handbags and accessories.  If Oprah can take an hour of expensive broadcast time to fawn over the latest peep toes and buckles then surely I can indulge myself for a bit on my day to post. I’ll try to make this as informative as possible, but really, this is all about emotions.  I’m an undeniably artsy/conservative dresser, but sometimes I like to break loose.  Shoes are my way to do it.

I’ll begin by stating unequivocally that I am certainly no Imelda.  I’m not a shopaholic and I don’t buy things I neverNine West CFM Shoes wear and keep stashes of hidden purchases in the back of my closet.  I absolutely love going to the US every now and then because that’s where I can treasure hunt for amazing deals at magical places like Marshall’s, Nordstrom Rack and Sak’s 5th Off and, yes, the almighty Ross stores.  I have no problem sorting through miles of so-so in order to find an incredible gem at clearance prices.

I love shoes.  Some women I know don’t, but most would agree with me that great shoes make you feel pulled together and powerful.  I put an outfit together from the feet up.  I just found these great Nine West CFM shoes (remember my title, people) at a Ross and I think they’re a work of art.  That’s why I have one on my desk for inspiration.  A fine sculpture. I’d like to think I’ll wear them one day but I don’t know when that’ll be!  I love heels but I hate to be uncomfortable or tower over my husband so maybe they’ll just stay on my desk for the duration of my love affair.

The sense of smell is supposed to be most closely linked to our sense of memory.  I’d have to disagree and say my sense of Shoe has an even greater connection for me.  My cousin’s wedding in Trail, BC, when I was 10…I wore black patent T-straps with my first 1 inch wedge.  I thought for sure Dennis would leave his new bride for me when he saw how grown up I looked in those shoes!  The multi-coloured suede boots in pinks and purples that I wore in high school or the first pair of CFM platforms I bought with my babysitting money at the Bay downtown when I was 13 that horrified my mother and made her involuntarily cross herself with her rosary. Yeah, those had to go back pronto.

I wore a fabulous pair of off-white stilettos that were over a year old to my own wedding, kicking them off gently when I made it down the aisle because they did make me too tall for the actual ceremony.   Some murmured afterwards that it was maybe inappropriate to slip off my shoes but I was being practical; why buy new ones for one day when I already own a fabulous pair that I love and feel wonderful wearing? I still have them all these years later.

Have you ever been at an event or out in public or whatever and your footwear feels wrong?  It can make or break your outing!  I’m serious!  Comfort first, but after that, anything goes!  If you don’t have a physical problem with wearing towering CFM heels then go for it, just remember to balance the overall look with a classy outfit.  No mini skirts and tube tops.

Forty Deuce shoes
This is me and some friends at Forty Deuce Burlesque Club at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas at 4 am. I got caught with the wrong shoes for this activity! Not easy to learn a pole routine with flats on! But we had fun trying!

Seriously, what we wear on our feet is a reflection of who we are as women and what we feel about ourselves at any given point in time.  I’ve heard it said about men, too, and whether or not they keep their shoes buffed, etc.    No matter what size you are or how bad a hair day you’re having, you can always go and try on shoes and feel better (take a friend and stop for coffee and you’ll feel much better!)

Who knows where I’ll find my next pair of Creating Fabulous Memories shoes or where I’ll get to wear them.  Bottom line for me is it’s just fun owning some.

Ya, ya, that’s what CFM stands for Jacquie. You’re funny!

    Love your shoes/works of art.

I recently bought a pair of black CFM’s for myself complete with the three inch heel. Have I worn them yet? Nope, other than around the house. (I need practice walking in heels that high) I just haven’t had a perfect occasion to wear them yet. I’m taking them to New York and Tampa with me but will wear them only if we are getting in and out of cabs and going somewhere that requires a lot of sitting.

It is amazing how your attitude changes when you put on a pair of CFM shoes. I don’t know about you but I suddenly feel very powerful. Maybe it’s the extra height, maybe it’s knowing the heels could pierce through an enemy, I don’t know, but I love how they make me feel inside. My feet disagree however after the first hour.

Jacquie the pole dancer. Who knew!

    Shoes are art!!!!!!!!!!

I just watched that episode of Oprah, and it was quite interesting. Interesting to see what people put on their feet! I too LOVE shoes… love, love, love them. I usually start my process of getting dressed in the morning with ‘what shoes do I want to wear today?’ Sometimes the styles just don’t work for me, as has been lately with the very high heels. On that episode of Oprah, they showed you how to walk in the 4″ heels Bonnie, maybe you should check it out, and practice the posture and the ‘walk’ at home.

Good polished/well taken care of looking shoes are a must I think for all – nothing like ratty shoes to tell everyone you don’t care what you look like! I once saw this handsome man waiting in a line up in front of me. I remember thinking, gee, handsome…dressed nicely…and then…oh…shoes…sad shoes…unpolished, and super-scuffed up. He had it all going, up until then. Totally ruined his look, the top didn’t match the bottom. Something so simple as shoe polish, and a cloth.

BTW…I love the pole dancing photo! So…flats aren’t the optimal pole dancing shoes? Hmmm, who knew!

I feel some shopping coming on :)

      Thanks Janet.
I did see the Oprah show and laughed out loud at how that woman was teaching the others how to walk. I’m all for good posture but I don’t think its necessary to stick your butt and chest out that far! Funny! I’m just concentrating on not tipping over. Touching down with the ball of your foot first was good advice though.
I just read that Mariah Carey who is always in high high heels doesn’t even walk flat footed while barefoot…she walks on her tippy toes still.

      • Janet

My daughter who is 9, started ‘strutting’ around after that lady showed us all how to walk – LOL.

*groan* I will explain the groan in a minute. First of all I’ve been patiently waiting for that photo of Jake pole dancing for oh lets guesstimate about 6 months. I was starting to think she didn’t have it in her! Hooray !! I see now why she waited patiently and it fit so perfectly to her post. My groan at the start was because I am that one person who NEVER EVER has the right shoes on. I usually wear runners with yoga pants. I have big feet 8-9 and shoes just don’t look at sexy in enormous sizes!! I bought a really great pair of comfortable shoes called “Bass” that Bonnie also has (FYI) and when I tried them on in the store Scott actually said to me ” really, seriously your not kidding, ya sure go ahead buy them it doesn’t affect me anymore, but remember this conversation when you have a first date with some guy and he doesn’t call you back, I will only ask you one question…did you have ‘the shoes’ on?” I bought the shoes and I kind of don’t care because they are really really comfortable. Slip ons even! Not sure if Bass is good name for a shoe though, maybe it is. Aren’t Bass fish huge! I love that Jacquie has great shoes and she wears them too !! She wearsssss them if you know what I mean, she uses the shoe it it’s full potential!! I have platforms I had to wear on Stargate for the extra 6 inches in height I needed to be Amanda Tapping’s height, they look like Kiss Boots. *groan* And now Bonnie has CFM shoes. I used to have red heels in the 80′s that were CFM shoes. I think I need new shoes…Now I’m starting to worry that my shoes actually say ‘Creating Fast Momentum!

    • Janet

Tracy, Tracy, Tracy – comfy shoes, and good looking shoes DO go together! My sister has size 11 feet (narrow as well), and if she can find comfy, stylish shoes, so can you! FYI, size 8-9 are not big! Bass shoes aren’t bad – they actually have some nice comfy shoes, you must have missed that section when you were shopping :)

  • jacquie

LOL! I didn’t mention that I also picked up a pair of granola shoes while away that have the ‘comfort sole’ so I get where you’re coming from, T! Nothing wrong with wearing running shoes with yoga pants! I’d cringe if I saw you walk into Starbucks in CFM shoes after dropping the kids off at school! It’s all about being comfortable in your own skin and some people just aren’t into heels and then they look ridiculous and awkward trying to pull it off. The ones I had to wear on Stargate were only 3 inches high but boy did I get used to them! Kiss boots all the way!

Janet, I hear what you’re saying about how ratty shoes can ruin a guy’s look altogether. They don’t need to be fancy, just clean and age appropriate. I laugh when I see a grown man wearing skater shoes with the laces undone and the big tongue hanging out! I’m looking at shorty booties right now that have the peep toes and thinking I want a pair. They really are goofy in a funky, sexy way. Should I go for it or will it be a waste of money? Trendy and out next season? I need help!

    • Bonnie Johnson

Oooo, I’ve been looking at those too but the peep toe is making me think twice…not really appropriate in a Canadian winter.

p.s. Just measured the heel on my CFM’s and they’re actually over 4 inches…and a size eight by the way.

    • Janet

I thought those peep toed boots were kind of weird, but they are growing on me…not sure I’m quite there yet, but if I found a pair I liked…ya never know! I agree goofy, funky, sexy – winter brrrrrr though. I think they’ll be around for awhile, they are probably just catching on – do some good bargain hunting!

  • Rick

Can you Create Fabulous Memories in cowboy boots….. LOL ! I read the article and all the comments too ! Oh, Oh…… LOL !

  • Samantha

I LOVE shoes. Sadly I tend to only be allowed to wear runners with my prosthesis. When I went out the other day I found a pair of mary janes! OMGoodness. I wanted them so bad. Then I remembered I couldn’t have them :(
I think from now I am going to remember the design of the shoes I want , cut it out of cardboard and tape them on to the runners.

Im a huge shoe lover and If I had those shoes I would keep them on a shelf and admire them.

  • anne

oooOOOOoooo…too much of a coincidence… I am wearing my absolute favorite pair in this picture!

memories, like the corners of my closet,
    misty leather scented memories…
    of the shoes we wore…
can it BE it was all so painful then…
or has time rewritten every whine?
if we had the chance to wear them all again
    tell me, would we…should we…?

    • jacquie

SMOTFL!! (scrape me off the floor laughing)

You’ve reduced me to a puddle of giggles, Anne! Ah, the question is ~ To Bunion, or not to bunion!

  • Shirl

How about a good looking man with expensive jeans and shirt on, are you ready? WEARING BLACK CROCS!!! He wears them all summer including when he is riding his flashy Harley Davidson! Hilarious!

  • Tracy Westerholm

Shirl I will go on record by saying Crocs are a deal breaker for me!!!! They are with out a doubt the ugliest shoes on the planet ! Sorry if I offended anyone it’s just my opinion ! My Bass could be the equal to Crocs I am not sure !

  • Shirl

Jake, the lady with the grey dress and the tan boots….what’s going on? That’s an oopsee I think. Her girlfriend should have told her before going out. She needs some shoes/boots that actually go with the dress!

    • jacquie

Unless they’re really great boots! LOL! I think some rules are meant to be broken and it depends on your accessories and how confidently you strut your stuff. I’m a bit of a mash up dresser so I forgive others their choices in most cases. If you were to stick a grey and tan leather belt with the dress you’d have a smokin’ hot look and everything would be pulled together.
Like Tim Gunn says on Project Runway..”Make it work, people!”
