Laurie Meseroll aka Wild Violet!

Many, many years ago, when eBay was just learning to take baby steps, I discovered an Outsider artist who painted under the name of Wild Violet. Her portraits were quirky and emotionally stunning and I fell hard for her artsy/folksy style. She now goes by her real name, Laurie Meseroll, and I see she’s still creating wonderful naive art that draws me in and makes me want to know what her characters are truly thinking.

Laurie’s style may not be for everyone, but for me I look into the eyes on her characters and I see….me! I see real human feeling reflected back and it makes me care about what they’re up to. Is that silly? Perhaps, but we all see different things when we look at art and that makes us unique. I bought a small painting of Wild Violet’s about 8 years ago called ‘Still Searching’. The thoughtful female portrait just made me feel like she understood so much of what I was feeling, and so having her on my wall was a comfort. I hope you check out her website, as well as Earth Angels, the gallery that represents Laurie, and enjoy her whimsical take on the world!

Despite the broad shoulders and thick neck I like the piece Pink Sprinkles shown above.. mostly because of the rosy pink cheeks and I think I have the same skirt in my closet.
