Just me going on about my day and enjoying artist Brian Scott

Good morning friends, and people who find us accidentally, take a peek and leave cuz you were googling ‘how to pick up girls’ but got us instead (I’m sure that topic will come up at some time if you’re patient)
It is an ab-so-lutely beautiful morning in my fair neck of the world. It has been all week, I’m delighted to report. I have this disease to please ~ I know I’ve mentioned that before in earlier sessions posts~ so this is the way my head works; my sister is now living in Australia and has her house rented out to two Aussie professionals here for a few years. It’s been 11 months and even though I don’t really see them much, I feel guilty if the weather’s lousy for too long because I think they must be comparing it to Sydney and missing the sun and hating the Vancouver gloom! And somehow that’s …my…fault. Ewww! Writing it out sounds like I think everything’s about me! Gross! that’s not what I meant! But that is what it sounds like, Jake. Perfect! Now I’m talking to myself.
Give me about 20 minutes to drive Samantha to school and I’ll be back……….Man, is she irritated! Got her driver’s license a couple of weeks ago so I’ve let her take the car to school but I’ve needed it for the past several days and she is pouting! Suddenly she is WAY too above taking the bus! Ahhhh, I’m going to miss her when I look back on these good times (give it about 15 years)
Hey, I want to tell you about a favourite artist guy I know from around here. His name is Brian Scott and he paints in the Expressionist style which is probably the style closest to my own ~ but he’s just REALLY good at it! Expressionism is all about showing the emotion of a subject and not worrying so much about letting reality get in the way of the creation.
This one is one of my all time favourites and is called Poppies Spring Glacier.
I just feel happy and alive when I look at his work. He paints big canvases so you can really sink into his palette and lose yourself in it. I can’t help but feel more alive and energized when I stroll through his website or go to a gallery show. I hope you like his stuff and get a charge out of it, too.
Granville Island Perspective
This one was painted en Plein Air (outside, not in a studio. It’s his preferred method, if I may be so bold and speak for him) slap dab in the middle of Vancouver. I love his take on the city. The guy’s not afraid to use colour. Did I mention I loooovvvvee colour?
There’s an amazingly unique area in Richmond, a low lying suburb of Vancouver, called Finn’s Slough. It’s like stepping back in time where the inhabitants live on boats or in these little shacks on the edge of the tide flats and little canals. Kinda like a Louisiana bayou, not that I’ve ever been there but I just imagine it’s like that. Anyway, artists love to paint the houses and old boats. That’s what he’s done here. Now, I have a phobia of old creaky boats but for some reason I’m drawn to boat art! I can’t explain it. Maybe it’s like facing your fears will make them go away?
Thanks for letting me share. You’ve been a perfect audience. And for my next trick I’m going to make a rabbit… I am in such a strange mood! I know, I need protein! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you know.
Love to you all! Live your life with colour!

Fantastic post Jacquie! I love this flamboyant mood of yours. You had me chuckling all the way through.
I definitely like Brian Scott’s work and, yes, I got a charge out of it. I even like how he incorporated his name into “Poppies Spring Glacier”. That’s my fav by the way. It must be the vibrant colour. Funny…when you look at my home you’d think I was afraid of colour. Note to self: More colour please!
I remember my son being just like Sam after he got his drivers license too. Situation: Normal
Beautiful Art thanks for sharing Jake!! How about next time we see some more of yours !! I remember when I got my drivers license all I wanted to do was drive to the store for milk or whatever my mom wanted! Another form of adult freedom kicking in! love your post too! You are so in the moment with your writing!
Yeah, I guess the whole ‘who gets the car’ thing is pretty normal. They forget it’s not the ‘family’ car but mine and I get right of first refusal.
Funny T. Yesterday I had Sam drive to get milk at 7:25 a.m. in exchange for the car! LOL
And tomorrow she has to clean the bathrooms if she wants it for the evening. Great leverage!
Jacquie, THANK-YOU!! I didn’t realize that I’d let myself get into a bit of a slump — pressure of ‘things to make and do’ — until I beheld those glorious colors!! What a lift I got! The ‘poppies’ and the Finn’s Slough scene are my favorites. And yes, they do remind me of your style, Jake. I personally find the ‘Granville Island’ scene just a little too busy but Brian Scott sure knows all about the impact of colors beautifully used. For its — dammit, I can’t think of the word, spacial design (!) I prefer the painting you have of that scene…can’t recall the artist. Omigosh, I’m going to have only four hours sleep; I’ll be setting the alarm for seven a.m. in order to catch the Men’s Semifinals of the Roland Garros ‘Paris Open’ Tennis. I’m sad that my hero of the last two years, Rafa (Rafael Nadal of Spain) lost to the Swedish giant in the Quarterfinals. But it was a fair test. Anyone out there interested? I think the final on Sunday is likely to be between Federer and the Swede, Soderling.
PS. I have a GORGEOUS photo of Rafa which I wish I could include here but I don’t know how. More’s the pity. Besides being a great athlete he’s a really great guy — and quite a dreamboat as well. Jacquie, I’m going to send the photo to you; will you be able to insert it for me? And so to bed.
Reply from Jacquie: Sorry, can’t insert photos in comments. I’m glad you liked Brian Scott’s artwork and I hope it inspires you to get out your paints again. : )
Wow, I LOVE that art. So colourful. I like the Granville Island one best.
