Now would be a good time to look around your house and see how much you have received over the last couple of days. It’s embarrassing really, that we receive so much, and give so little. I was very touched by this video when I saw it posted on Facebook. I give in many different ways, from lending to empower an entrepreneur in a developing country through Kiva to supporting We Give a Damn by purchasing a I Give a Damn T-Shirt to spread the message about Bullying. This year my family bought Tim Horton gift cards to hand out to the less fortunate in our community, providing a warm meal. I think it is so important to help those in need when you can, and especially important to get your children involved. The Spirit of Christmas is the Spirit of Giving. Narayanan Krishnan is someone who completely understands this spirit!
I had another post ready for today about Internet Dating but after watching Larry King Live, it just seemed trivial compared to this.
The Give a Damn Campaign is a project of the True Colors Fund, founded by Cyndi Lauper. The True Colors Fund works to inspire and engage everyone, especially the straight community, to get involved in the advancement of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.
As an advocate for more than 25 years, Cyndi has worked to bring her straight peers on board in support of equality. As she says, “If one us is not equal, none of us are.” (taken from We Give A Damn website)
I joined We Give a Damn and you should too! It doesn’t matter if your gay or straight, you should still give a damn! Bullying is everywhere, not just directed at gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, it’s also directed at those who are straight. Bullying was in my biggest fear having a son entering into Middle School. It can be a parents worst nightmare, because as we’ve seen in the News it can lead to suicide. No one should ever be made to feel like taking their own life is the only solution. Kids need to know that their lives will get better and it will pass, but only if we join together and see to it! Being bullied can happen to anyone, a child, teens and adults. It’s unacceptable. Bullies are cowards who prey on others because of their own insecurities. The problem lies beneath their skin, not those who are being bullied!
My girlfriends son was bullied just last week, not for being gay, for being new to a school. It was horrible to hear what her son had to go through, it breaks my heart! As parents, coaches and teachers we need to take a stand and not accept any tolerance to any kind of behaviour that remotely resembles bullying! Take a stand, I did!
We Give A Damn, if you do you’ll check it out too, it has so much information!
Kids can help too, here is a great example of how ~
