Transition…

IMG_6835I know when it happened for me, looking back in this moment, it was long awaited. The transition of understanding a higher level of what real love can be and the meaning or feelings behind it. Loving another unconditionally without any need for commitment. A deep friendship that you know will stand the test of time.

Love takes it’s toll on all of us at some point in our lives. We accept the consequences as soon as we take a step forward with a potential love interest. It can be daunting if you’re not ready or have had your heart bruised more than once. Given the chance I would take that step over and over knowing what may come my way. Hearts always mend if we give ourselves enough time.

I have finally understood that love does not need romance to fuel it’s flame. Love is pure and simple. Love comes to us when we least expect it. To love another human being is to accept them for who they are not forcing them to change to meet our needs. When we open our hearts exposing our intimate thoughts, bare our souls and accept, love deepens beyond our wildest dreams.

Giving is so simple!

This time of year seems to bring out the best in some people and the worst in others. The holidays are just around the corner and for some that equals stress.

Giving the basics to those in need doesn’t have to cost a great deal. It can simply be about giving time. I understand that we are all very busy in our own lives which doesn’t leave us much time to give away but any amount of giving is better than not giving at all. People spread themselves and their families so thin with their own schedule they barely have time to do anything for others. Like anything else you do in life, when it becomes part of your regular routine it simply fits in.

The holidays should not be about materialistic stuff that in no way makes us better human beings. Most of us clearly have way too much stuff. Our kids are living in a time where they don’t understand doing without. That’s where we are parents can help make them aware of those who do. There are human beings who are surviving on not much more than the cloths on their backs, invisible to society yet standing right before our eyes.

Last year my family gave Tim Hortons coffee cards to the homeless which provided them with a warm meal when they needed it. Our kids need to be shown how fortunate they are and that they need far less than what they have. It worries me that my kids generation thinks its normal to have an iPhone at 13. In most cases both parents work so it’s guilt that gives not values. No one waits for anything anymore, they’re the NOW generation. I want it now! Kids drive around in expensive SUV’s with their parents oblivious to who is barely surviving in their own community. It doesn’t even register to them that the homeless person they see every single day is lucky if they have two warm meals. It’s our responsibility to teach them how to help.

Collecting warm clothing and blankets to hand out to those living in your community is always appreciated at this time of year. Filling wool socks with basic items of need such as gloves, a toque, toiletries and candy is another way of helping out in your community to those less fortunate. There are a number of great organizations that you can get involved with or be creative and find your own way to help out. Giving feels good, I promise you what you get back in return in far greater than what you gave.

Life should consist of both give and take. Each of us should be accountable to ourselves on how often we do both. Sometimes it’s very apparent that there are those who give and those who take…which are you? Giving in order to get is doing for the wrong reason. Giving because you can is a good start.

When was the last time you reciprocated a kind gesture, helped out someone in need. It’s the simple gestures that really mean something to others. Just yesterday I looked out my window to see my neighbour lifting my basketball hoop back up and clearing my driveway of all the debris that blew onto it from the wind storm. Another male friend of mine offered to drive me into town to a meeting I needed to go to today because I had been feeling dizzy lately, on his day off! 🙂 Just two examples of thoughtfulness that I experienced in the last two days. The Act of Kindness goes a long way.

Find a way to involve your family in giving and see what a difference it makes! If you have a creative way to give, share it with us.

What is Love?

What is Love? There are various kinds of love; Passionate love, Lustful love, Brotherly love, Mother’s love, Compassionate love, Unconditional love, the list goes on.

When I go out walking I see the same elderly man pushing his wife in her wheel chair around the neighborhood, they have love that I am certain many of us have yet to feel. I stop and talk to them each time we cross paths about the weather, flowers and my old dog Zack who greets them like an old friend each time. They have an energy about them that attracts my heart. I can’t resist being in their presence for what I think they have experienced. They look to me like they never gave up. They have stood by one another through life’s trials and tribulations and came out on top in the end, standing next to one another. They are dressed perfectly and seem content to just be with one another. I am curious about their story and I just might ask next time I see them so in my mind I know a little more about love.

I think every woman wants a love story of her own. We are drawn to love stories because they allow us to feel the magic of love, we are happy to indulge our emotions, even if just for a brief moment. Love for me begins when one human being develops special meaning to another. Plain and simple. You wake up and they are on your mind, throughout your entire day your thoughts are with them, and they become your last thought before you drift off to sleep.

Lustful love is something everyone should experience once in their lives. You lose your inhibitions when you get caught up in lustful love, but unfortunately it usually ends in sorrow.

Romantic love starts when you take down the walls and open your heart to someone and trust them with your deepest desires. You become sexually possessive and only want them to be intimate with you and only you. And so it begins, the next step towards true love… romantic love.

I am a romantic and for me love is like having a breath of air. It’s vital to my existence. Love happens when we least expect it and can change our lives forever. I have learned a lot about love in my 40 odd years of life and I think only now, have I really started to understand it’s greatness. Without love our world would be a very different place.

Motherly love is the scariest love for me, it’s having a piece of your heart walking around outside of your body. Vulnerability to the 100th degree!

Passionate love is a personal favourite, uncontrollable, spontaneous, unexpected, raw and free from any kind of structure. 🙂 It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it!

Unconditional love is the most rewarding, giving, selfless love one can experience. It has no boundaries and is the truest, purest form of love you can ever have the pleasure of feeling.

Loves changes everything. Embrace any love you have in your life!
