Life is a Journey ~

To-Thine-Ownself-be-true-2

She was born pure at heart, mind, body and soul. She would walk a path that was to teach her lessons she so deeply needed to learn. Lessons she signed up for long before birth. She had an agreement with the Angels who were to guide her along the way. She would call upon them in times of need and trust they were at her side. She stepped into this world with her own agreement with souls who were also on a journey, crossing her path from time to time. Their adventures together would last a lifetime. Each soul that stood before her was a lesson waiting in the wings.

Guided by her Angels, she began her journey with a clear conscience that would remind her where she was safe to travel, that one day would lead her back home.

As she evolved into a strong independent young woman her life started to blossom. She spread her wings and took flight. She was not meant to always understand the path in which she traveled but to have faith it would lead her to where she was meant to be, in time. Her journey would teach her the importance of living a life true to self. A life free of ego, filled with acceptance.

“To Thine Own Self Be True” ~ Shakespeare

There was a greater plan for this free spirit that would take her decades to recognize. Her heart was filled with love, it was her purpose to share this gift with those she intuitively knew needed to feel it. She was truly born a love child.

Not always aware of the presence of her guidance she fearlessly walked where many did not. There were signs along the way that gave her an unknown source of comfort. A comfort that radiated from within her. A comfort she was soon to understand from where it came.

She is a woman with a strong sense of self. A woman who blazes trails of her own. A woman who fights for her rights. She is a woman that believes in the power of words, and the actions that follow. She gives hope to the underdog. She is a woman who is able to settle her fear, if for just a moment to allow the voices she knows to be true, lift her spirit.

She strives to make it to the end with her dignity and self respect intact. To lay on her bed of death knowing she made a difference in the lives of others. To have felt love, gave love unconditionally to those who stood before her. She is a woman who holds her values close, her morals high while reaching for the stars from out of this world into the next.

She finds herself surrounded by peace, love, faith and understanding.

She finds herself back home.

Feelings ~ Thoughts ~ Words

59f8ee19a6a8353ccc9fb29af06a6b5c“Thoughts become things…choose the good ones” ~Notes from the Universe

10407872_10152072469157032_6170729355099373110_nThis is a quote I am aware of every single day. There are few moments in time that it does not stay at the forefront of my over active mind. It settles the way I process my day to day life. I need this thought like the desert needs the rain.

No one can be expected to always choose the good ones, but we do our best. There is nothing wrong with wallowing in thoughts of uncertainty or insecurity if you are aware you are there, just don’t hang around too long. We sometimes don’t appreciate the good without the bad, the up without the down, love without being alonelife without loss.

Balance makes us appreciate what we have and have not. Through each life experience we learn more about who we are and how we can use what we learn to move forward on our path, whatever path that may be, to where ever it may lead.

Transition takes time. I continue to go through a transitional state in mind, body and spirit. I am starting to understand how to deal with the unknown more and take with me the thoughts and people that keep me grounded.

Music sends me away from time to time and reminds me that I am not the only one. I believe lyrics are written and shared not to expose the intimate thoughts of another but to allow those who listen the feeling of being connected to something so grand and universal it speak with a common chord. “Music is what feelings sound like” another favourite quote of mine!

I crave stories of love that allow me to escape into a world I hope and dream to be mine one day. Some days that dream feels like a mirage. We all dip into the thoughts we may not be deserving but we know in our heart that is not true. Everyone deserves to be loved by another.

~A flower without water…wilting.

~Petals fall to the ground.

~Words unspoken.

~Thoughts let go.

~A drop of water…continue to grow.

~tracy

No matter what emotion washes over you, embrace it, immerse every ounce of your being into how it makes you feel. If it’s sadness…feel it, excitment…let it explode from the centre of where it came! If your heart ache then allow the ache to penetrate your soul! Once you walk within the emotion that holds you, it lessens its grip, you become more acquainted and you let go. YOU let go.

“That’s the thing about pain, it demands to be felt” John Green

Feel it and let go…

Some feelings fade, others grow with time. Some we keep tucked away in the deepest part of our hearts, others we set free with the slightest breeze. We gather strength after we allow them to take us to unknown places. The journey back again happens with time.

“Thoughts become things…choose the good ones”

“Jealous Of The Angels”

66821_234091456740446_1156119800_nI posted this last year but felt the need to re share it with you as a reminder that Monday is NOT a holiday but a day to remember those who came before us, and those who give themselves today so that you and I have the freedom we sometimes take for granted.

We don’t have to allow the commercial aspect of marketing to rush us into the next holiday on the ‘list’ so quickly! Remembering those who gave their lives for our freedom should be savored. Remembering those who lost their lives regardless of the battle they fought should be remembered in our hearts forever.

Loss affects every one of us. Death will greet us all, eventually. Risking your life for the lives of others is the ultimate sacrifice. Material loss means nothing to those who survived a battle…of any kind. Loss puts life into perspective. We need to continue being the change we want to see in our world and appreciate the gift that those who came before us gave. Battles are fought but not always won, leaving a legacy behind to be remembered.

The Heroes who fought to give us our freedom are being whisked away too quickly so we can drown in the madness of gross obsession for stuff none of us need. Stuff! Where has all the meaning gone? Wants and needs have become one of the same. They are NOT the same. What we need is to get back to the basics before we can’t see through all the distractions swirling around us, calling us like a deep seeded addiction calls an addict. Consumerism…we have all taken a hit of that drug. STOP the madness!

I don’t think we take enough time to appreciate what’s truly important in life. Health, freedom, spirit, love, friendship, unity and peace. The essence behind what is lovely in life is being over powered by marketing, money and greed. We can’t allow the human spirit to be set aside for such meaningless garbage!

We are reminded often lately how precious life is. The love that is present in our hearts for those who gave their lives selflessly can’t be forgotten. Lest We Forget is a phrase to caution us against forgetting those who died in war.

We can’t take any of our possessions with us when we leave this world, but I do believe when one is awarded with a ‘medal of honour’ it transcends with whom it belongs in spirit. Honour in your own way those who left you behind. Give those you loved their very own medal of honour to take with them when they go.

Human spirit rises in tragedy. We naturally reach out to those who experience a loss, it’s human nature. Compassion is alive and well. We are surrounded by Heroes in memory and in life as are we surrounded by Angels. I like to believe our Heroes get first dibs on the Angels waiting…and our Angels are past fallen Heroes giving themselves once again.

On The Road to Reality…

door romantic

IMG_0066From where I have come is a question I ask myself often. Why am I here? What is my purpose, if not to live a life wrapped in true romantic love. It has taken me years to come to the realization that the path in which I have followed, is perhaps not going to lead me to where I dream of being…

Reality is like the devil in my world. Born Aquarius, I naturally look to the future. I live in a different world. I am a daydreamer, a night-dreamer and as far back as I can remember, I willingly escaped to the life my imagination created carefully in my head. I danced until dawn. I laughed until I cried. I kissed like it was goodbye. I loved with my heart and soul. I believed in true love and fairy tale romance. I lived it, inhaled it with every breath I took. My quest was simple…to capture ‘that’ feeling one gives you when you connect deeply through the windows of your soul. That look that makes you smile from a place so intimate your cheeks blush and skin heats from within.

I live in the clouds and spin my dream into interludes trying to capture a moment in time that makes my heart beat faster. The language of love. My imagination fulfills my romantic desires but I yearn for more than just those whimsical thoughts that floated by, way up high.

I have packed my bag lightly with a few belongings, mostly memories gone by, a leather bound notebook, a pencil to scribble my thoughts, a piece of jewelry I cherish and an old photograph that will remind me who I am. As I look around my space comes alive. My past flashes before my eyes like old movies playing on the projector in my mind.

I put my hand on the door in front of me feeling the energy that radiates behind it. This particular door will open when it’s ready. Until then I will stand close and feel its warmth pass through me. Like a child waiting to open a gift, the anticipation is overwhelming. For now, I will float among familiar ones that take me back to sift through the meanings that they brought forth to help create who I have become. Each one was placed in my path for a reason, a life lesson. You never know where a door will lead if you fear the unknown.

I sit on my cloud and contemplate what was and what will be. Each life experience or door I was courageous enough to venture through took part in making me who I am today as I pack my bag ready to come down from where I have called home since I was a child. It’s time.

I bow my head as I approach a new beginning with tears in my eyes of memories I hope never get lost in the shuffle of life. I savor each moment as I slowly reach forward and place my hand on the ornate worn knob. The moments I want to bring with me are safely placed at my side if I feel homesick, a familiar feeling as a child. There will always be a silver thread holding me to what I am not meant to let go.

The energy from behind the door waiting for me glows with a light so warm it almost feels like home. It distracts me from this moment like a future waiting to unfold.

So you see, I do know from where I’ve come. I need not know why I am here. My purpose is to be. True love is all around me. I will arrive when it is time. It is only now where I want to be in mind, body and spirit. I need not a daydream or fantasy in my life to feel full, reality can be as exciting as the world inside my mind.

Inspiration is All Around Us ~

600853_10151273304816778_1257505943_n
Photo on 13-01-30 at 2.43 PMInspiration is all around us, if we take the time to look and listen. A High School friend of mine named Mike sent me a message last night asking if I would write about his BBF, (their version of BFF ;)) who inspires him immensely. I couldn’t say no because that is what one of our goals here on Tara Cronica…Inspiring others to live their most authentic lives, use our voices to create positive change in the world in which we live and ‘Find Lyrical Beauty in Everyday Happenings!’

Mike described Teresa as one of the most thoughtful positive human beings he has ever met. Mike told me that you can’t help but be lifted by her spirit when you are in her company. She is a true Mom who puts her two boys always first!

Last April Teresa found a lump in her right breast, a story that is becoming far to familiar with all women! Teresa went through the Breast Health Clinic in Surrey and couldn’t say enough about the staff and team of surgeons! After biopsy’s and MRI’s they found precancerous tissue and Teresa eventually underwent a full mastectomy. By being so courageous and sharing her story, Teresa inspires everyone who crosses her path.

Mike went to every appointment with his BBF 😉 and said he felt that he was in the presence of greatness. That is a Best BBF EVER!!

Mike has decided to put on a fundraiser in Teresa’s name to help ease her mind while she is on the road to recovery. It will be held at Jimmy Mac’s Pub in Langley on Feb 10th (Sunday) starting at 4:30! There will be prizes, silent auction, 50/50 and karaoke by donation!

Mikes daughter Tina created the Dream Catcher you see in the photo above which is made out of donated bras. As Mike says “I’m sure the dream catcher has a million stories” hehe! I am sure it does! Tina has offered her work of art to raise money for this fundraiser. If you are interested in joining the auction please contact Mike @ bigrenz@live.com for more information!

Thank you Teresa for sharing your story with us here on Tara Cronica! I hope your journey touches the lives of many giving hope and courage for those who follow in your footsteps. Mike you are a true friend, women need the support and strength from our male energy and you have given just that, making a difference in a beautiful woman’s life!

Svaha ~ May a Blessing Be With You…

525863_4832179039493_382257347_n

Tracy headshotWhen we created Tara Cronica we wanted to have a website dedicated to inspiring women to live their most authentic lives. When you spend time with your girlfriends you leave feeling empowered, in turn strengthening your female energy and the bond between you. We chose the Buddhist Goddess Arya Tara because she is the Protectress of Earthly and Spiritual Travel along the road to Enlightenment. The word Cronica is a Brazilian form of poetic writing that’s purpose is to explore the lyrical beauty in everyday happenings. When you combine the two you have female energy trying to find beauty in everyday. That is what we try to do here on Tara Cronica. We share ourselves with you hoping to form a connection that creates a bond and source of well being. It seems we need that more than ever, human connection that joins us all together as one.

I do believe that when you focus on the positive instead of the negative, change is inspired. When you use your voice you inspire change, not only within, but in others as well. We try not to focus on the negative, as it only attracts more.

I wanted to touch briefly on the tragedy that took place this week at Sandy Hook Elementary School. There were far too many young spirits taken from us. I say from ‘us’ because we are all connected by human spirit. I say young simply because of their age. The adults who died were Hero’s doing everything they could to keep our children safe. We all feel a loss when something so tragic happens in any community. My heart aches as I am sure yours does watching this tragedy unfold.

Today I feel numb. I feel deeply sad for those who suffered a loss, the children who were taken and those little spirits who will have to find a way to make sense of this in their innocent minds. We will grieve together with the world and eventually carry on but will not forget those who were taken and those who showed such courage.

Although it is hard today to see any lyrical beauty in this happening we can shift our focus on the human beings who make this sadness a little easier to swallow. Dawn Hochsprung the school Principal, Victoria Soto, a beautiful 27 year old first grade teacher, Mary Sherlach the school psychologist, Rachel Davino, Anne Marie Murphy and Lauren Rousseau. Their brave actions will always be remembered.

It is time for everyone to use their voice to create the change that is needed to help prevent another tragedy such as this. Let us not focus on the who that was behind this but why it happened and how we can prevent it from happening again.
Svaha ~ May a Blessing be with you!

It’s Your Choice…if you can make it.

I was talking to a male friend of mine the other night about a number of different topics and something he said stayed with me. “Failure for me is not an option”. He doesn’t see anything ending in failure. He doesn’t allow himself to even go there visually. What a great attitude to have. There is no point in starting anything if you already see yourself failing at it. A positive attitude and hard work ethic is the key to success in life as far as I am concerned.

What ever you set out in life to do there will always be someone who is better. Not being the best doesn’t mean you failed. Just doing it is a part of succeeding. If you want to be the best you have to put in more than everyone else. Athletes are the perfect example of those who naturally visualize being the best. Competitive by nature they are born with the drive to win. We can all learn from those who are the best at what they do. It takes a lot of hard work and perseverance to achieve that title. If at first you do not succeed…try try again!

If what you are doing makes you unhappy each day at some point don’t you ask yourself why you’re doing it? Doesn’t it makes sense to create change instead of just going through the motions! It’s not always easy but nothing really worth while ever is. Sometimes baby steps are all we need to push us in the right direction.

There are also those who don’t need or strive to be the best. They enjoy their life regardless of what they do or where they fit in. It’s not always easy to reach for your goals or dreams. Sometimes life, responsibilities and obligations get in between our dreams and reality. As long as you wake up each day loving life, giving back and being a positive influence you are inspiring those around you. Have you ever met someone who makes you want to be a better person, that’s what I’m talking about. We all have our role in life and as long as whatever you do you do your personal best we all benefit in a positive way. I’ve tried to teach both my kids that it’s not what you do that matters as much as how well you do it. “If you can’t be good, be good at it” has come out of my mouth on more than one occasion. Attitude, hard work, enthusiasm and passion can change everything. And don’t forget to smile, they’re contagious! 🙂

We make choices every single day. Some we need to think about in great depth and some feel right as soon as the thought crosses our mind. In the end a choice is made in order to move forward. Choices are part of life. We can choose to work towards a goal or dreams or we can let our life unfold in front of us making choices along the way. Sometimes it is not us who makes the choice that changes our direction in life.

Life is ever changing, you never really know your path until you are walking it, and still then it’s not always your choice that changes its direction, most important is to just keep going! Tracy ~

Some of us know exactly what we want to do at an early age. A goal is set and steps are made to achieve it. Others take their time and change their path several times before they find what they are seeking. Believe me I know how hard choices can be. Since I was a very little girl I remember the struggle I had with choice. If I was given more than one I had such a difficult time deciding. Thankfully as we age we become much better at making choices. Life experience, wisdom and knowing who you are seems to help. I find too many thing in life interesting and worth exploring to be pressured to pick just one. I am working on it. 🙂 If I could just decide what I wanted…I’m certain I would get it! Oh and eenie meenie minie mo rarely works! lol

You’re Awesome in a Wheelchair Josh!

“Follow your dreams and you will discover your true potential.” Josh Dueck

I haven’t met Josh yet.  I know people who know him because I live in Vernon and he is a local Vernonite.  I saw locals buying “Go Josh Go” tee shirts around town and I was curious.  People were really stoked about Josh’s run for medals at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympics.  They weren’t disappointed when Josh captured a silver medal yesterday in his first of four events.  Way to go Josh!!

In fact about 50 people from Kimberly, his home town, and from Vernon, where he lives now, stayed to cheer him on even through three steady hours of afternoon snow and after at least half of the crowd of 4,000 had called it quits, they were still there when their sit-skiing hero earned a surprise silver medal. Dueck said it was “huge” to feel the crowd’s energy. “I put a little bit in my back pocket just for those moments when I needed it.”

Josh learned to ski at thirteen and dreamed of becoming a professional skier.  He made the B.C. freestyle team, working to qualify for Canada’s national development team.

The financial demands of competition led Josh to coaching and sharing his passion for sport as head coach of the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club in Vernon. It was then that the dream crash-landed.

Preparing students for the 2004 Canadian junior nationals, Josh was too fast on a demonstration jump. “Intuition said stop, but my ego made me go,” he remembers.

Overshooting the landing hill, he dropped 100 feet and completely smashed his body —breaking his back and flipping his world upside-down. Bent in an impossible direction, the spine was severed. At 23, Josh was paralyzed from the waist down.

Josh’s focus, dedication and commitment are so incredibly inspiring.  All the athletes competing in the Paralympics truly demonstrate to the world that the human Spirit is so much greater than our physical selves.  Congratulations to everyone competing and thank you for inspiring all of us.

This is a great video to get you into the ‘Spirit of Believing’ ~

As Premier National Partner of the 2010 Winter Games and a long-time supporter of the arts, Bell is bringing together Canada’s top talent in the fields of both sport and culture to produce ‘Believe (Olympic Inspired Version)’, a one-of-a-kind music video and audio track that will raise funds for Canada’s winter athletes and chronicle their extraordinary journey on the road to 2010. Suzie McNeil ‘s song “Believe” was originally recorded and released on her debut CD, Broken & Beautiful. The Olympic inspired video for Believe was recorded with the National Arts Centre Orchestra and released on September 17, 2007. Here are the lyrics to this beautiful song.

Believe Lyrics:

One minute’s fading
One minute’s passed
But I’ve got this moment
To make it all last
And I’m standing before you
Taking my chance on everything
I never thought that I could be
Cause you can do almost anything

Chorus:
If you just Believe
You can move mountains with dreams
The higher you climb
The better it gets
Cause you will see things
You’ll never forget
If you just Believe

It’s like I’m falling
Through my own fears
They used to haunt me
But now they’re not here
There’s no looking back
My future is clear no giving up
And I’m holding on when it gets rough
Cause you can get through most anything

Chorus

No one says it’s easy
And no one says you have to be perfect
But as long as you try
You’re always gonna find it was worth it

Chorus

Spiritual Journey~

TracyIf you decided to go on a “Spiritual Journey” where would you go and what would you do?

“Your life is a sacred journey. And it is about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformation, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly and deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path… exactly where you are meant to be right now… And from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing of courage, of beauty, of wisdom, of power, of dignity, and of love.”
Caroline Adams

Spirituality has long been associated with religion, deities, the supernatural, and an afterlife.  Many equate spirituality with religion, but the two are separate entities, religion being one way man experiences spirituality.  Spirituality may include introspection, and the development of an individuals inner life through practices such as meditation, prayer and contemplation.

Spiritual Journey’s can change and enrich your life.  Whether you ride your motorcycle down to Monument Valley or Hike in the Himalayan Mountains a spiritual journey is a very personal exploration of ones self.  We usually embark on such quests when we are aware that our spirituality need attention.  It can be described as an “Aha Moment” even.  It’s when you venture out of your comfort zone and look inward for answers to questions we all have.  “What is my purpose or path in life?”

If I were to go on a ‘Spiritual Journey’ I would pick one of two.  I would love to spend time with Buddhist Monks to learn about Meditation, Intention and Karma and I would also like to learn about Kabbalah. I have always believed that meditation is a huge part of being spiritual and can calm our souls and shed light on issues we all have.  Meditation means awareness.  “Watching your breath” is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation.   As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.  Meditation is not a technique but a way of life.  Meditation means ‘a cessation of the thought process’.  By meditating you are able to let go of your physical self and get in tune with your metaphysical side.  That is the Spiritual Journey I would like to embark on!

Post Insert Jacquie When I was in my twenties I had small kids that needed to be taken care of and the journey I was on was one of survival.  Mine and theirs.  I believed it was my sacred duty to make sure these young souls felt safe, secure and loved.  Now that I’m no longer necessary in quite the same way, I’ve felt the need to find other  ways to feel complete.  I’ve decided for me that means reaching beyond my comfort zone, past established boundaries and out into the community I share with my global neighbours.

I could answer this question metaphysically, but what I really think Tracy is asking in this post is for a literal description of where I want my spiritual journey to begin, or take shape.  I’ve actually been looking into a place in the Kootenays, about 9 hours from Vancouver near Nelson, BC, called Yasodhara Ashram.  I’ve never been anywhere near this area but I’ve heard of it’s natural beauty and peaceful majesty.  Yasodhara offers yoga, meditation and spiritual guidance for beginners like me all the way up to advanced practitioners.  I would love to spend a week or two by myself totally immersed in the everyday Ashram comings and goings and at the complete mercy of the program.  I would arrive with an open mind and heart and actively seek enlightenment or whatever came my way.   My spiritual journey is about enriching my life with experience and knowledge and I know a stay at the Ashram will only begin to heighten my awareness of all the work I have yet to do, but it’s a good start.   Think of it like an all-inclusive for the spiritual cherry-picker.  It may take several pilgrimages to find what works for you, but each attempt brings you closer to your goal.  Keeping an open mind is key.

Bonnie Johnson's Post

There are many places in the world that are considered “holy” or “spiritual” places to visit.  Places like Jerusalem, Tibet, Machu Picchu, etc.  Eckhart Tolle, who wrote “A New Earth” and “The Power of Now” has said he felt that the west coast of North America and specifically around Vancouver, BC had a strong positive energy which he was drawn to in order to write about his own spiritual journey.  I don’t doubt this.  I have been in different places in the world that seem to awaken something deep within me.  But a true spiritual journey is really about going within your Self.  I don’t think it matters as much about the ground beneath your feet as it does about the degree in which you can tune in to your Source (God/Spirit/Universe/insert whichever label you are comfortable with).

I believe a true spiritual journey is one that inspires you to connect with your own spirit.  I have felt that way when sitting on a flat rock beside a babbling creek in North Vancouver, while floating in a canoe in an underground river deep inside a cave in New Zealand, while looking out at the ocean on a beach in Australia, while exploring our beautiful British Columbian outdoors, and even while watching a spider working on its web in my own yard.  If a place inspires and stirs your soul then it is worth a journey to.  It may be its beauty, its energy or simply a memory it stirs up for you.  Wherever that is for you I hope you are able to go there often.

Postcards From Gusto

Bonnie Johnson's PostThe Postcard arrived addressed to:

You
Exactly Where You Are
In The Perfect Place
At The Perfect Time

And it came from:

The Passionate, Ridiculously Wise, Unflappably Optimistic Part of You
That’s Brimming Over With a Zest For Life And The Adventure That It Is
(In other words my “Gusto” – or “enthusiasm, delight, relish, zest, spirit, fervor”)

Well that’s interesting.  That’s the part of me that I’d like to hear from more often!  This would be the part of me that I don’t hear from enough.

I’ve been receiving a daily inspiring postcard from “The Passionate, Ridiculously Wise”…I’ll just shorten that to “Gusto” from here on, part of myself since Aug 5th.  The virtual postcards arrive by email to me everyday except on weekends (even your Gusto needs a holiday from work!).  I have to say it is delightful reading.  They are not long;  beat you over the head with positive words kind of messages, just simple, to the point and quite inspiring.  It is a lovely way to start my day!

I had planned on sharing a few of the charming messages that I have received so far by going back to past emails but “doh!” the email is always the same and says:
You have a new POSTCARD FROM GUSTO: www.postcardsfromgusto.com
Of course when you click on the link even from past emails it goes to the new postcard of the day.  The older ones are gone forever.  This has me vowing to read them slower so I might savor each one for longer in the future.

Every new postcard has a wonderful picture on the front that just seems to add a little something special to the words.

I highly recommend going to postcards from gusto and signing up for your daily message from the …unflappably optimistic part of You.

Here is the postcard I received today:
