Life is Fleeting…

IMG_5543

IMG_4459We can’t go anywhere without reading a quote of some sort telling us to Live, Love or Laugh, do this, say that. Facebook is notorious for messages, so much so that even I have stopped reading all of them because my time has become so precious. My house is filled with messages…”Inspire” ~ “Freedom” ~ “Life needs more green lights!” Quotes are little snippets of thoughts that are supposed to makes us stop and think, even if for a nano second. Are the quotes becoming too frequent to absorb? Have we become desensitized to inspiration because of them? Does anyone actually contemplate their meaning anymore? Do we stop and smell the roses at all or are we all just drones who work 9-5, eat sleep and do it all again day in and day out. Where has the Whimsy gone? I want Whimsy! “What is yours will not pass you by” <~~~~ bullshit! It’s passing us all by because we all have our heads down in our message screen oblivious to the world around us! No one wants to take chances anymore. When was the last time you had eye contact with someone that made your stomach flutter! When was the last time someone said something to you that actually made you think? We are all too tired to even be tired anymore.

If you want to be inspired, spend some time in admiration of the elderly. They were once sitting right here thinking where has the time gone? I’ve been wondering how my kids could possibly be teenager! Where has the time gone? I am heading toward being ‘the elderly’ as I speak! Time flies when you’re having fun and news flash…even when you aren’t! So be in the moment and be grateful for each one you have!

I have really been affected by a couple of elderly men who come into my work and spend time chatting with me. They feel like real men who have lived, loved and laughed I am certain of it. They remind me each time I see them that life is fleeting and we don’t know when our time will be up. One has his lovely wife still with him, the other was not so lucky. Both get the biggest smile I can give when I see them walk through the door. They’re grateful to be here, living another day with their health and enjoying each moment. I have always loved older men, something about them that melts my heart. They have this silent, knowing look about them. They don’t need to boast or brag about what they did or who they are or what they’ve got. They are content with keeping from where they came to themselves. I can tell by the look in their eyes that they have a secret ember flickering inside that once lit up a room!

Anthony always starts our visit off with “you’re beautiful” and then he reaches out and touches my hand gently and smiles. I love Anthony! He told me to go for what I wanted, not to worry or think about it, whether it was a man I had my eye on or a new path in life! He brightens up my day and reminds me I can do anything I set my mind to. He said “If a man doesn’t treat you kindly and take his garbage out then move on after you konk him over the head!” <~~~~ his words not mine. Anthony is 83;) “Treat’em rough and tell’em nothing!” was advice from my Nana to me in regard to men! I think Anthony would have gotten a charge out of my Nana. I think the elderly and by elderly I mean over 80, think we aren’t made like they used to be. They have the wisdom to be calm and mellow. I agree. Times were tougher, you had to suck it up to survive. You didn’t give up because it wasn’t a choice. You did what needed to be done or you were done. Character building days!

I think we have a lot to learn from those who were in our shoes not too long ago. If you take the time to find out what they wish they had done different or what they wouldn’t have changed, we might all live a little more and worry a little less!

Life is fleeting…find your passion and start sharing it before you find yourself with the feeling of regret and wonder of what would have been if you had just taken that step.

Here are a few of my favourite quotes that have made me think in the last little while.

“You’re imperfect and you’re wired for struggle but you are worthy of love and belonging.” ~Brene Brown

Music is the Cure…

First I must thank Bonnie and Jacquie for the beautiful surprise of having Lawrence join us yesterday by adding his voice which I have loved since the day we connected. My heart is overflowing!  I have so many wonderful people in my life to be grateful for…Thank you all for making my day special! xo

I love listening to music. For me Music is the cure to everything. Music adds an element to life that I think without it, would be flat. When you mix your favourite tunes with pretty much anything I think it opens something up in your mind letting in a creative energy that can’t help but inspire. Words inspire, but when accompanied by music…they embody the feelings. It clears my mind, exhilarates my body and makes my spirit soar!

My favourite is listening to music live. There is something about watching the passion in another human being as they create or play music. It’s a gift that eluded me unfortunately. 🙁 I couldn’t sing to save my life, and although I’ve tried strumming the acoustic guitar, it is much more difficult than it looks. Drums…not sure how anyone can coordinate doing 4 things at different speeds all at the same time, that boggles my mind. I am okay with being the one who sits and enjoys listening to others play their passion. It’s when you can turn off your touch, smell, sight, taste and just focus on listening…

I am drawn to musician, and not just the handsome variety, the female energy also. I am envious of their ability to create something so beautiful.

Music can change or enhance any mood your in. Enya makes me fantasize about ball room dancing and Madonna makes me not give a fat babies ass (to quote PitBull) what anyone thinks of me. Rob Thomas’s ‘smooth’ vocals melt me. Enigma as Bonnie has posted about in the past is the Best Music to Have Sex To (Bonnies words and post not mine…ya I know!) giggle!

I love finding new music, it’s why I watch the Grammy’s, they were awesome by the way if you missed them on Sunday night! I was just turned onto Walk Off The Earth…simply awesome! Such a creative group of musicians who went viral overnight! Magic!

Music is the cure to all lifes trials and tribulations…in my opinion.

Musicians are Sexy…  (my post from All Things Sexy and Silver…it just seemed to fit)

There is something overwhelmingly sexy about a man who can create music. “Music is how feeling sound”...(one of my favourite quotes) Woman are drawn to men who can express feeling, whether it be through the simplicity of words strung together, or a melody that pulls at our heart strings. When a man learns to read the music of a womens heart he captures her.

“Music is the art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony and colour.” A man who can create feelings with his unique interpretation of those elements has a powerful presence. Is it the man that seduces us or do we open ourselves to the poetic features of music and allow the man to enter because he holds a key? Music is a form of expression more unique than language, it adds the element of vibrationally energy that although we can’t all create, we have an insatiable desire to hear and feel it.

Music allows us to open our minds, to a level of consciousness far beyond what we are used to. When we open our mind, body and spirit to it, our soul dances. When we open our mind body and spirit to the one who creates the music we dance together.

The mind of a musician is on a frequency that’s invisible to some. When a single note is released it affects us like a scent traveling through the atmosphere until it become a mere whisper. It touches each of us in a unique way, taking us to places we’ve been before and those we have yet to explore. Allow yourself the pleasure of getting lost in the music, or the musician who is creating it. Make a Memory ~

Musicians captivate crowds with their art form that allows the listener to join with them on their intimate journey of interpretation. They surrender to the music as they perform. We connect with then as we allow our feeling to surface as we listen. The vibrational rhythm is not only heard, it’s felt by every cell of our body transcending us to a place that feels like no other.

It’s one thing in life I wouldn’t want to live without.

Music is the prelude to everything…

What’s Happening Out There?

It seems more often than not when I watch the News I feel sad and wonder what’s happening out there? Beautiful young girls are being beaten to death in broad daylight, gang raped while others just standing by and watch, boys are bullied at school and forced to fight so some jackass can post the video on YouTube, there is political unrest around the world, and it seems innocent lives are being lost everywhere you look. Human beings are coming unglued. There are those who are creating negative behaviour and those who are reacting to it. The human race needs help and guidance desperately! Its craziness that is so disturbing at times it makes you wonder if its even safe to bring a child into this world! At times our future seems anything but bright, but I think we have to stay focused on the good that is all around us. If you look hard enough, it’s there, just hard to see some days!

When I sit and think about all the negative things going on in the world I think about what my part in all this is? Where do I fit in? What am I doing to create the change that is needed to stop the mayhem? There’s always hope, you can never give up or you lose before you even begin. Even one person can create enough change to make a difference!

When people visit Tara Cronica for the first time they often wonder what it is we’re selling. Its made me question why I’m doing this, more than once. What are we giving those who drop by for a visit? We sell our line of Jewelry and T-shirts, but the bulk of our site is our written word. What’s that worth? I use my voice because I feel passionate about sharing my life with others hoping to help in some way with theirs. I try to live by example of what you can achieve through perseverance and hard work. My hope when you leave Tara Cronica is that you don’t feel alone. There’s always someone out there who can relate. I hope to put a smile on your face, show you a different point of view and stir you somehow inside, which makes you use your voice in return. We are not just selling Jewelry and Tee’s, they have our message of Inspiration which I think is really important in the world today, you can’t put a price on Inspiration!

We created this space in the blogosphere to “Find Lyrical Beauty in Everyday Happenings” where we try to focus our attention on the upside of ‘everyday happenings’. We want you to leave inspired, so you can carry on your day and inspire others, and come back more grounded having creating positive change. We are trying to create a feeling, a warm sense of belonging, a safe place in a world that is trying desperately to change for the good. We are real women sharing real stories. We all have our own reasons for walking down this path, for me it just feels right. It’s a way of giving back, joining a social network to make my difference, as small as it may be.

I happen to think we are part of a very important movement which is picking up momentum as we speak! What’s happening in the world is not all negative, there is a lot of positive as well and that is what we are trying to share with you!

Thoughts become things….chose the good ones!

Being Human ~

Happy Birthday Christopher John!

Human beings are complex creatures if you really think about it. We can love passionately one moment and feel intense pain the next. Most of us walk through life completely unaware of what our purpose is until we meet someone who inspires us to find it. These sorts of people are sprinkled throughout the world waiting to help those who are unaware. I had a synchronistic meeting with one of those wonderful human spirits just the other day and he gave me a gift that can’t even be translated into words yet, I am still processing our connection. I promise I will share more with you at a later date. 🙂

There are also those who are here to get as much as they can, they’re not fussy what they get as long as they get great quantities of it. I describe these beings as “food” because they’re just here taking up space waiting to be planted six feet under, to be fed back to earth and start again. Hopefully next time they will open their eyes and see what’s out there and the potential they have to make a difference.

We can be self absorbed, self-centred, unappreciative and wasteful. We can be driven by greed, money and materialism. Some of us live in fear without trust and step backwards more than forward. But change and awareness is on its way, for the betterment of all human beings! If we want Mother Earth to be here for generations to come we need to listen. We need to wake up to what is really important, the survival of our planet! If our planet survives so do we. We need to stop believing everything we hear and start trusting our instinct and intuition.

‘Life is about choices and consequences’ We are all capable of making choices, we make them every day. With each choice, there is a consequence, it’s that simple. With every Action there is a Reaction.

I’ve come a long way because of choices I’ve made in my life. Having children was a choice that changed my life. I believe they are here to help change the world! My life took on an entirely different meaning, my heart opened up larger than I could have ever imagined. I became aware of what I would be leaving behind for my children, a future far beyond my lifetime. If I didn’t pay attention to my choices the consequences would surely affect them as well. What I did with my life became more important. I made a conscious choice to teach my kids that life is what you make it, and every single human being on this planet is able to help make change. It’s never too late to make changes that will benefit our world and the people in it.

We are all aware of the changes being implemented in ‘Going Green’ these changes have become the norm which shows us that we can make a huge impact on our planet if we put our resources together. We have become aware, which is a start, but we need to go further than that. We need be aware of the energy of the human spirit to make the biggest difference. Each thought that enters our mind, each word that rolls off our tongue changes something or someone around us. It’s our choice if we want it to be of a positive nature.

Gini Gentry’s teachings stem from the heart of Toltec wisdom. “Don’t go against yourself”, “Don’t create circumstances that go against yourself” and “Don’t align yourself with someone who goes against you”. By doing these three things you empower your human spirit.

I just went to Gini’s facebook page and have share her status because I think its perfect!

“To reclaim our authentic nature, we need great clarity and awareness to accurately observe our lives. Once we do that, we can begin to dismantle the beliefs that obstruct being in truth and living from the heart. We step away from our impeccability when we deny that we are the source of love we are seeking and don’t speak and act from this truth.” Gini Gentry

“Our lives are the sum total of the choices we have made” Wayne Dyer

I am being human, I am making choices that don’t go against myself…are you?

Svaha Spirit Series ~ Toltec Wisdom (part 1)

I have been reading The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Toltec Wisdom’ by Sheri Rosenthal and felt I needed to share it with you! I came across this video where Gini Gentry shares the Rule of the Nagual (pronounced na’wal) the Toltec teaching that can lead to self-mastery which will either inspire you to buy the book and read it as I have or push the thought aside for now. I always find that when I am ready for a book it just happens and I read it.

What is the point of a blog?

Bonnie Johnson's PostEach of us here at Tara Cronica lately have been hinting either in past blog posts or in our comments that the development of our blog has helped change us in ways we didn’t expect.  Good ways.  I think that it’s due to the process of tapping into creative juices when forced to come up with a new post idea every few days.  It stretches those elastic boundaries, creates colourful commentary and sometimes everything feels aligned.   When you put three women together who are all independent, strong willed and passionate, you are bound to get some interesting results.  We don’t always agree with one another.  I’m sure you don’t always agree with what you read here at different times either.  What I love about that is that we all get a say thanks to the comment section below each post.  And we respect each other and our different views even if we sometimes choose to agree to disagree.

In the beginning we thought it was important to keep everything lovely and uplifting and positive.  We still want that, but we also want to keep it real.  Real isn’t always sunshine and roses.

When the three of us first got together and were brainstorming ideas for this web site the word “authentic” kept coming up.  We all agreed that our writing had to be authentic to who we each really were.  We wanted to encourage other people to feel safe to just be themselves when interacting with us too.  I feel we are staying true to that.  This medium has allowed us to use our voice and by doing so in some cases has allowed us to find it in places we didn’t expect to.  And so we find ourselves constantly changing and growing from the experiences Tara Cronica has introduced us to.  We sprinkle our posts with things and people that inspire us whenever we come across them, we share moments from our personal lives like we are talking to close friends and sometimes we simply talk about what we know for sure…so far.  There are some who don’t understand what the point of our blog is.  Point?  Does there really need to be one?  We love creating our posts for various reasons and it is our hope that all of you  will enjoy our little banter when you choose to visit us.  For me it’s about sharing.  Sharing other sites, books, movies, music, people and sometimes just my own point of view.  This is a blog after all:

Blog is an abbreviated version of Weblog, which is a term used to describe Web sites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. A blog is a frequently updated, personal Web site featuring diary-type commentary and links to articles or other Web sites.

Peer Pressure

peer pressureSchools Back and with that comes Peer Pressure!  When I think about the youth of the world I can’t help but think of those two words.

I was at a local track meet before summer and was inspired watching the athletes compete.  The look on their faces when they approached the finish line was what I enjoyed the most.  Such determination in each one of them.  All their hard work and discipline paid off.

During the track meet a group of 50-60 kids from the local high school walked across the field like they owned it while events were taking place. They headed for center field like it was their arena they were denied.  As they passed by all the parents, we heard them saying how excited they were to have come to watch a fight.  The mob quickly circled around a couple of guys who were about to be center stage when the principal and another teacher quickly diffused the situation.  Kudos’ to both of them for taking charge of such an enormous group of kids.  Unfortunately sometimes there is not always an adult near by to stop this kind of potential life changing mistake.  Young guys get all fired up and can’t control their hormones, they get lost in the moment, and because of peer pressure they lose complete control.

Some kids just haven’t got the confidence to make choices that will prevent the pressure from getting the better of them.  This lack of confidence can lead them into a compromising situation that they are not equipped to deal with, which could potentially change their life.

I think peer pressure is the underlying reason for most altercations between young guys or boys.  I believe fighting should be for one purpose and one purpose only, self defense.  My Dad trained for years in Kyokushin Karate (full contact karate), Scott achieved his Black belt through discipline and hard work and Bonnie and I trained in kickboxing together for several years, so I have a long history of being around controlled sparring.  Confidence is a very empowering feeling.  At some point in your life you may need to fight, it’s important to know how to protect yourself, but fighting today is not what it used to be.  The fight you participate in today may be the end of your life two weeks later because of retaliation.

Why has it become acceptable to stand by and watch?  If no one watched, the behavior would simply not happen.  My Dad gave me advice as a teen that always stayed with me, even today.  “If you are ever somewhere you don’t want to be, or someone makes you feel uncomfortable, leave!” It’s basically another way to use your voice. Walking away makes a statement too.

I think as parents we need to take some responsibility in the actions of our kids.  We need to know where are kids are and who they spend time with.  They need to know that they matter and that they can talk to us about absolutely anything.  Communication is key in keeping our kids safe and out of harms way.  Sometimes we let our kids down when they really need us.  We are there for them throughout elementary school but just drop them at the doors of high school and assume they don’t need us anymore, when in fact they need us even more.  We need to be there for our kids especially when they are trying to find their place in life.

Music Lyrics…

I love listening to the Lyrics of my favorite artists. Lyrics make us question our lives, relive a moment, inspire and lift us up, allow us to lose our inhibitions or simply make us smile.  Here are a few that do just that for me.  You’ll see why.

This Time…Jonathon Rhys Meyers (August Rush)

I’ve been sitting watching life pass from the sidelines
Been waiting for a dream to seep in through my blinds
I wondered what might happen if I left this all behind
Would the wind be at my back ? Could I get you off my mind
This time

(You Want to) Make a Memory…Jon Bon Jovi

Hello again, it’s you and me
Kinda always like it used to be
Sippin’ wine, killing time
Trying to solve life’s mysteries

How’s your life, it’s been awhile?
God it’s good to see you smile
I see you reaching for your keys
Looking for a reason not to leave

Chorus
If you don’t know if you should stay
If you don’t say what’s on your mind
Baby just breathe
there’s nowhere else tonight we should be

You wanna make a memory?

And my all time favourite!

Better When Were Together…Jack Johnson

There’s no combination of words
I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing
But I can try for your heart,
our dreams, and they are made out of real things
like a shoebox of photographs
with sepia-toned loving
Love is the answer
at least for most of the questions in my heart,
like
Why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?
It’s not always easy and
sometimes life can be deceiving
I’ll tell you one thing, it’s always better when we’re together
