Tithing…not a word you hear bantered around much anymore unless you live in Utah.

Simply, it refers to the very, very old medieval practice of giving one tenth of your income, or a tithe, to the local church.  The church would then use the money to feed the poor, take care of  abandoned babies, run the hospitals and just about anything else the community needed.

It’s a great word.   Hard to know how to pronounce if you haven’t heard it before and too many people haven’t.  Rhymes with writhe, as in “She writhed with indescribable pleasure as the handsome Knight roughly lifted her gossamer gown above…”  Whew.  I think you get it!

With the state of the economy these days it’s pretty hard to ask anyone to consider parting with one tenth of  their income on a regular basis so no one’s gonna do that here.   Like I said, we just like the word so we’re gonna use it.  And if we can make tithing sexy,  even better!  Hee hee.
