Svaha S.S ~ What is Nirvana?

397883_526846134038782_860539381_n
IMG_0066Enlightened Monk Thich Nhat Hanh gives his insight on Nirvana ~ ‘the cessation of all suffering, the removal of wrong perceptions. Wrong perceptions is the cause of fear, violence and hatred. Removal of wrong perceptions is the only way to peace.

Nirvana is the removal of ideas that serve the base of misunderstanding and suffering.

We fear death because of our perception of it. There is no death there is no birth. We can not become nothing, there is a transformation and continuation…we do not die, we continue.

Non-fear is the true foundation of great happiness.

Nirvana is the capacity of removing wrong notions, wrong perceptions which is the practise of freedom. Nirvana can be translated as freedom, freedom from views. In Buddhism all views are wrong views. When you get in touch with reality you no longer have views you have wisdom you have a direct encounter with reality and that is no longer called views.’

Svaha S.S ~ Love is All You Need!

IMG_4459My daughter shared this video with me, I had to pass it on. It is an important message that unfortunately is still not embraced by everyone in the world in which we live. Love is all you really need! When we feel loved, we flourish! We grow and pass that very same love we received on to others.

Give Love ~

Accept everyone for who they are ~

Stand up for those who are not brave enough…yet ~

With support and courage we can make a difference in the lives of those less courageous ~

Svaha S.S ~ The Real Harlem Shake!

Photo on 2011-07-27 at 19.27 #2Dance Season is fast approaching so I thought I would share this with you.

Viral? Really? The Harlem Shake…I don’t usually say the word ‘NEVER’ out loud because in my past it has come back to bite me, but in this instance “I will NEVER be a participant of the Harlem Shake…EVER!” I can however appreciate the real deal!

This is the REAL way to do the Harlem Shake.

I did however find one video where some guys actually had some moves…giggle!

Go Louisville Men’s Basketball! (((((smile)))))

Here is an example of what’s going viral…

You have to admit that is much better than most out there! The people of Harlem are not impressed with the videos circulating, but I think would appreciate a couple of these guys moves!

Small-SI-Kids-Dec-Cover Photo on 2011-07-27 at 19.27 #2Inspiring doesn’t do this story justice! Conner and Cayden Long are the 2012 SportsKids of the Year according to Sports Illustrated and boy did they get that right! Conner Long is only 9 years old, his brother Cayden is 7. At 4 months old Cayden was diagnosed with a condition called hypertonic cerebral palsy, which left him unable to walk or talk on his own. These brothers are inseparable even when it comes to sports…Triathlons!

Watch and see for yourself, you may want to grab a tissue!

Svaha S.S ~ Define Pretty!

Photo on 2011-07-27 at 19.27 #2pretty Intelligent, pretty Creative, pretty Amazing

Katie Makkai is a veteran poetry slammer and here she defines the word “pretty“. Katie has a powerful passionate message that all young girls should hear! Be who you are from within and you will shine bright like a diamond girls!

Here is a little about who she is…

“Katie Makkai’s first poetry reading was in a neighbor’s basement at the age of seven, where she performed profoundly moving works about puppies and kittens for her Girl Scout troupe. Makkai is now a veteran slam poet who has garnered attention for her performance of “Pretty” at the 2002 National Poetry Slam. This work, as well as other pieces in her two books of collected poems, chronicle Makkai’s own struggle for self-worth and identity in a culture that often seems enslaved to what she calls “the Aesthetic Beast.”

Makkai co-founded the Denver poetry slam in 2000, the same year she graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in Writing. She has performed in poetry venues throughout the U.S. and competed at the National Poetry Slam every year from 2000-2005; she was voted champion for the city of Denver in 2000 and Albuquerque, N.M., in 2002.

In addition to poetry, Makkai also writes humorous short stories about her experiences as a woman navigating the social and political terrain of civil service. This includes a 10-year career as an EMT and paramedic, as well as her more recent appointment as a deputy medical examiner in Oregon. However, Makkai asserts that no competition or professional work compares with helping to teach poetry to juvenile criminal offenders through “Art from Ashes” from 2000-2004.”

Svaha Spirit Series ~ Give a Little bit…

<—- Okay seriously my mustache looks real! Tomorrow for those of you who don’t know, I am wearing it all day for a donation by my friend Drew to Movember. So give a little bit for a great cause!

Give simply because you can! I love when human beings come together and help one another. It makes everyone involved feel good inside. Give a donation, compliment, support, kiss, smile, hug, helping hand to someone who needs it regardless if you know them! Give because you can!

Svaha Spirit Series…We Day ~ The Movement of Our Time!

We Day is a celebration that fills stadiums with leaders of all ages who earn their entry through volunteerism and philanthropy for 500 causes! The photo above is Vernon Secondary School! They took action last year and won the We Schools photo contest.

In Vancouver this year those who spoke included Magic Johnson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu who is a world-renowned South African social activist, heart throb Cody Simpson, Demi Lovato, and of course Craig and Marc Kielburger.

Less well-known, but no less inspiring, Me to We and Free The Children speaker Molly Burke captivated the audience with her powerful story. “This is our time to lead. And, we need to come together, and find our voice on this issue (of bullying)” Molly said. With a story that clearly resonated deeply with the audience, Molly and her best friend and guide dog Gypsy left the stage to a rousing standing ovation. Molly’s speech was captured by an audience member who I am sure went home with no voice as I would have. I teared up and got shivers throughout her powerful message!

Svaha Spirit Series ~ 30 Day Challenge

I so want to do this…I just have to figure out what I want to challenge myself to do for 30 days. Suggestions? (Be nice)

I came across this inspiring and short, less than 4 minutes short, Ted Talk by Matt Cutts of Google fame. He’s got me all riled up to challenge myself now.

Is there something you’ve always meant to do, wanted to do, but just … haven’t? Matt Cutts suggests: Try it for 30 days. This short, lighthearted talk offers a neat way to think about setting and achieving goals.

Svaha Spirit Series: How to Spot a Liar ~ TEDtalk

We have all been lied to and told more than our share of lies to avoid hurting feelings or getting caught at something you were NOT supposed to be doing in the first place! Can you tell when you’ve been lied to? Have you ever watched the show Lie to Me? It’s really interesting! We all know it’s better to come clean and tell the truth than be caught in a lie. It’s simple really, you can’t forget the truth.

TEDtalks are one of my favourites ways to get lost on the internet. You learn something interesting and the variety is endless. Here is one with Pamela Meyer called How to Spot a Liar. I found it fascinating, not for any particular reason what-so-ever! Just sayin…
