I’ve been trying to use a process called “Wouldn’t it be nice if…” to help keep me positive when things don’t go like I want them to. It works like this. Imagine you are on your way to work in the morning; you might say to your self “Wouldn’t it be nice if the traffic was light on my commute this morning”. This way you aren’t giving attention to any negative thoughts as you would have if you had said to yourself “I hate driving in rush hour traffic!! I’m always so stressed by the time I get to work!” It’s just a way to swing your thought process around to a better feeling thought. Every time you reach for a better feeling thought…guess what? You start to feel better.
So I’m trying it out today. Here goes.
“Wouldn’t it be nice if I could come up with an idea about what to write about for this post?” (Look! It’s working already)
“Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the very few people who came to the log home show actually bought a house from us?”
“Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have the house loaded on the trucks soon so we could leave here right away?”
“Wouldn’t it be nice if Johns back would go back in place today and he was pain free again?”
“Wouldn’t it be nice if those policemen, who came to arrest the two big native fellows that were fighting each other beside our hotel last night, would show up and give me a hand loading all of this luggage so I wouldn’t have to do it by myself?”
“Wouldn’t it be nice if my diarrhea would clear up before I have to drive for 9 hours straight this afternoon?”
“Wouldn’t it be nice if I could do this without any sarcasm?”
Sigh. I think I have to keep working on this some more. In the mean time I have the Beach Boys song stuck in my head so I thought I’d share it with all of you too. Just click on the following link: “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by the Beach Boys
